Hey, I've got a problem and I thought this is where I could clear it up. I thought it would be cool to have a Sephiroth model in Quake 3. For many days, I've looked for a way to edit the models in the .LZS files. I found a program that can view them but not edit/extract them. I want to get each individual model out of the LZS and into a format that can be read by Milkshape. From there, I can put the pieces together and export the model into Quake 3 format.

Dammit, that last post was by me. I must've logged out by accident.

I also wanted to point out that I'm using the PSX version of FF7 not the PC version.

Well, there's your problem  None (or few) of us have the PSX version so all of our tools are designed to work with the PC version (plus, of course, you can *edit* the PC version too. Hard to do with the PSX CD-only version...)

You could request the PC-version Sephiroth model files off somebody who's got them...seems easiest.

Hey, I thought 'bout that idea before, too ! But okay. As for the Seph model: Talk to Sephiroth 3D - he's got a Lightwave Version, but you're able to import it into milkshape... But I'm not sure, if he'll let u use his models.

Well, probably, when he logs on next time, he'll see this topic...

Actually Alhexx, I was the one who referred him here.

I didn't give him mine, because to re-export the Sephiroth model to Milkshape would be a pain, and I think he would want the battle model version of Sephiroth anyway. It looks a hellva lot better. (Sadly, I don't have that yet. BTW: I got Yuffie done, and my S3D model has been changed to the new format. Next is my Xander model, then it's off to... wow... Barret. I'm father along than I thought...)

I also didn't know that he only had the PSX version.

PS: My C: drive crashed, so I'm posting on my dad's system. I should be back to my system tomorrow. (I hope...)

C: drive crash? Are you talkin' 'bout a Head-Crash
Hope NOT !

But okay, now I'm informed 'bout the situation. Hm  :???: Whatta do now? Hm... I know Dark-Raver was trying to put the model together in 3DS MAX, it'd be easier to import from 3DS to Milkshape... I guess. So perhaps he could post here, too.

BTW: You did Yuffie ? Hey, that's fantastic! Can I d/l it from your page? (BTW: What's you URL again? In your profile, the URL doesn't stand there...)

I like the model in battle but I'd take anything I can get at this point. If I could find a way to extract the little models in LZS's I could work from there but that has yet to be made. I can get my hands on a copy of the FF7 version for PC but how would I go about using them in Milkshape?

Alhexx: I will mention, it's a LW6.5 version of Yuffie. Fully animatable, but you need a working copy of LW6.5+. When I get my system working against, I'll email her to you.

Vedic: Once you get the PC edition, you'd use Fice's LPGTools to export the .p files to your hard-drive. Once you've done that, you'd need to use Alhexx's Ultima to export it to Milkshape. After that, it's up to you.

*Edit* Yay!! I'm just broke the 200 mark!!

Seph 3D: Okay, listen up:

1. I've been able to install LightWave 6.5 on my PII 266. So it's my home comp's fault, but okay ... I should get Win XP this week, so probably I'll be able to install it on my home comp, too

2. I've tried to convert a .p file into a (5.6) LWO file via my .p-to-lwo converter. And what? It worx! IT WORX !! I've been able to import it w/o problems !

3. Possible Solution: Probably a Plug-in is missing in your Version, which reads out the old LWO files... ?

I'll have FF7 for the PC in about a week. Once I have transferred it to a quake 3 model (via milkshape) will I have to re-skin it?

Re-Skin? HA! You will have to make a completely NEW skins !

The original FF7 models use mainly Vertex / Polygon Colors, Textures are only used for mouths, eyes and things like that. Skinning Field models shouldn't be too hard, but Battle Models ... I've tried that before, too...

It's possible, but it's a fine piece of work. So you will have a lot of fun

Hmmm... It'll be easier to use the field models.. I've got everything I need now except the model. I'm planning on stealing sound from Ehrgeiz for the sounds. If anyone has any the .p files, I would greatly appreciate you sending them to me.

Oh, you got it working? Cool. I'll put her together and email her to you.

BTW: MY COMPTUER'S WORKING AGAIN!! Sadly, it was my network card which was causing it to freeze, but at least I got it on the web, so I'll email it after I finish doing my posting.

As for the 5.6 import/export, I'll download your new copy of Ultima and give it a try.

I'm not sure if it'll work, b'cause the function in Ultima is the same as in my .p-to-lwo converter. But you can try it anyway

For Cloud and Sephiroth it would be best to use the high detail models from the final battle scene. This would be better if you are wanting to make a Quake3 model from it.

Alhexx: I've done clean installs of LW5.6-LW7 and none of them can read your files, as outputed through Ultima or your P2LWO prog.

How did you get them to read in LW? Or are you using Milkshape to read them? If the latter, your test were in vain. Milkshape can perfectly read both real LWO files and the corrupted LWO that it itself produces. (It can also read & write LWO2 files perfectly.)

I simply installed LightWave 6.5. Then I used Ultima to convert Yuffie's Battle Head (rxao) via loading it and using 'Export/LightWave 5.6'. Then I simply started 'Lightwave.exe' and loaded an Object. And I worked...but don't ask me why

Perhaps any other ppl out there who use LightWave and can try this?

Reznor007: I said it is possible, but it's harder to skin the Battle models, b'cause in the field models, a whole model part (perhaps a leg) use exactly the same color. In Battle models, there are shadows etc.

Of course a Battle model or the high end models would look better in Quake3 - I just wanted to say that it's gonna be more work to skin a battle model than a field model.

Ok Alhexx, I've figured it out. You've been testing with battle models. I've been testing with field models.

I just did a test, and I got Yuffie's battle head to import, but the Cid field head I tried to convert made a flawed file.

So to recap: Battle models convert just fine, but field models do not.

mirex: It works great. There's only 3 things you need to add before it becomes perfect:

#1) It should merge points automatically. (Or at least an option to do so.)
#2) You should have it so you can set the surface's smoothing option. (Default is off right now. LW default is 89.53 degrees. My perferred setting for FF7 models is 180 degrees.)
#3) All the surfaces, once converted, have a surface diffuse setting of 0%. It needs to be 100%.

But other than that, it work perfectly on both battle & field models!

I know jack sh*t about graphics but why dont you guys use 3D Studio MAX or MAYA, they are by far and away the most used 3D graphics programs arent they?  Also everyone in the games industry uses one or the other. (and if that's not a reason I dont know what is!)
You can't really use the price argument as I've found millions of placesto get both full versions for free
