I was just wondering what all of you are running.

I've got a 1 Ghz Athlon, MSI mb, 512ram, 30G HD dualing XP pro and ME.  (I would've dualed with 98, but I couldn't find my cd.  Me is just for FF7 now, 8 when I get it).  Oh, also my AGP Geforce2 MX with 64 megs.

900 Meg Athlon, A-Bit KT7-RAID Mobo (soon to be an EPoX EP-8KHA+), 384 Megs of PC133 SDRAM (soon to be 512 Megs of PC2600 DDR RAM), Asus V7700 GeForce 2 GTS 32 MEG DDR, and an SBLive! (not the Dolby Digital 5.1  ), and a *coughfifteengigcough* hard drive.  (Please don't make fun of my small hard drive . . .).  Dualing Win2K and Win98 (though I only use 98 for FF7.)

You won't have to worry about running FF8 in ME, XP should run it just fine (at least 2K does.)  Just make sure you have DirectX 8.0 and the latest Detenator drivers for you GeForce.

---Edit---

bah!  Spelling error.

Well, I've been *living* in a P3 500 box, 128mb ram, intel integrated video and a 6.4g hd with Linux (mandrake) since I'm beginning to really realize what pure sh*t windows 98 is.

My windows 98 box is an athlon 700 slot a, 384mb ram, 20gig hd, diamond viper 2 32mb video, cdrw (12x8x32), dvd, 17 inch monitor.

Currently looking to do a mb/proc/vc upgrade, prolly with an athlon xp proc, not too sure about the mb yet, and a gf2 video card.

I hear ya, Mirex.  I gots one similar, but I'm a little better off than you are in some areas.  This one's self-built, and also is in desperate need of an upgrade.  Laugh if you want; my friends at school are constantly laughing at the specs anyway.

Specs:
Pentium-1 233Mhz MMX processor
48megs of RAM (32megs EDO; 16 megs Regular DRAM)
Asus VX97 motherboard
Linksys Network card (For DSL-splitting purposes )
13 gig hard drive; plus a 540 meg drive for archiving stuff and to store my MIDI collection.
24X CD-ROM Drive (DMA is enabled, of course!)
(GamePad)PC Propad 4

Now for the good stuff on the system:
3DFX Voodoo3 2000 PCI; 16meg
Sound Blaster AWE 64 (512kb RAM setup)
Also running a Maxi Sound Fortissimo (XG Hardware card with the newer YMF744 Chipset) on the same system!
Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Joystick.

And that's all I can remember off the top of my head.  Interestingly, while the Fortissimo box claims that the card has hardware DLS, it doesn't under Windows 98.  However, the card does something to allow DLS SoftSynths to run FF8's music with no performance hit

I think we all know where the names for all those computers came from

I don't *own* many of the computers in my house (there are 3 other people living here..) but since the servers are kind of composite beasts anyway (we all contributed something) I guess I can list them too....

Anyhoo:

Ficedula (my PC, duh!)
----------------------
K6II 500Mhz
192MB SDRAM
Radeon VE 32MB DDR
Unbranded 15" monitor
Iiyama 17" monitor (both running off the Radeon .. hoohah!)
Chic optic mouse
MS Internet Pro USB keyboard
SB Live (yeah!)
Realtek 8139 network card
Mirovideo DC30 video capture card
20GB Seagate disk
Sony 12X/40X regionless DVD drive
Iomega Zip650 CDRW
Internal Zip100 drive (plus a normal floppy, but who cares about that...)
Front speakers: Arowana satellites & subwoofer
Rear speakers: Zyteks
Soulmate MP3 docking station

Win98SE
(Oh, we're listing things connected to 'em as well? OK...)
LG PAL/NTSC VCR
Grundy cassette deck
Digital microphone

Hal2k (main server ... internet sharing, file server, web server, network server, TV server [really!], voicemail, entertainment system ... you name it)
-------------
PIII 500MHz
256MB SDRAM
6GB Seagate drive
60GB removable racked Maxtor drive
LS120 drive
Realtek network card
HCF modem
WinTV card
32MB TNT2 with TV output (for DivX playback on the big TV ... bwhaha!)
ADSL modem (yeah, baby!)
PCI128 soundcard (suxors, but hey...)

Win2K advanced server
Goes into our big TV for uber-DivX/DVD/gaming experience, yeah
I think the PSX might be *somehow* connected to this as well ... hard to tell, really, with all the cables in the living room

Brian (spare server ... we're gonna set this up as a Linux box for the house, probably)
-----------------
K6II 450Mhz
128MB SDRAM
1.7GB hard disk (ouch) (though we do have a spare 4GB disk *somewhere*...)
Creative 24X CDROM
SB16 soundcard (yes! the original ISA one that was half a mile long!)
Dodgy who-knows-what-it-is network card
SiS video card

WinXP currently ... soon to be Linux, perhaps.

Jesus (belongs to another of the guys in our house...)
-----------------------
Athlon 700Mhz
192MB SDRAM
40GB hard disk
SB Live!
100/10 network card
24X CDROM
Geforce 32MB (I think)

Win2K Pro

Don't know the details to the other two computers (Omoikane and Dave) in the house offhand ... we've got parts for at least another computer scattered around, but since there's no need we haven't put those back together yet.

I really need to upgrade my CPU/MB but that's such a costly upgrade, I'm putting it off as long as possible...

Alhexx, be happy I have these systems. They're the ones I'm going to render the remake's FMVs with.

Actually, minus software & a monitor, I can build you a computer similar to M5, Guardian or Colossus for about $1200 US dollars. Maybe even better than them since prices today have gotten MUCH cheaper for better things!
