Prolly a codec problem but still
« on: 2006-12-21 02:22:12 »
Hey, for some reason none of the CGIs in FF7 work...it's just a black screen if I hit a button the menu comes up so the game is fine.
I thought it was a codec thing but, I can play the movies in windows media player with no problem.and I also have True Motion and ffdshow

the game worked before. then I uninstalled a while back and reinstalled now I have this problem

in light of my previous post I think I should mention, I did get my disc working again and got the movies off of it. so they are the official CGIs

only patches installed are offcial 1.02 and NPC reconstruction

thanks in advance for any help  :-D

Did you try disabling TrueMotion handling by ffdshow? Search more it's here somewhere.

Edit: nope still doesn't work.. oh well, I'll figure it out someday  :-P

Oh well... did you actually try to disable handling by ffdshow filter?

yeah, it doesnt work

this is like a super codec problem lol  :-o

My problem seems a little bit different then the one on that other thread. I do not hear audio or see the video and the game doesn't crash. the video and audio will play when I play it in windows media player out of game except the videos are upside down ( I dont know if they will be in game though) if they still are I'll just use the upside down patch

my main concern is getting them to work in the first place. I have tried like every codec in the world  :|

This is the last solution I am able to offer:
link (see the TrueMotion step in step-by-step instructions)

See this:
I tried it with the 1.02 patch - black screen. So I decided to just apply all the patches I had before, to see if it would work then.

I followed this guide to the tee:- http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6238.0
As I did before. I used the YAMP "movie skip" with ctrl-s, when the Eidos screen is supposed to play I used ctrl-s, and it took me to THIS!
(...)
Which is absolutely ridiculous. I went to the new game option and skipped the "non-existant" opening movie.

You know I've just found out that these black screen "non-existant" movies you are able to "ctrl+s"kip and play normally probably means that the game cannot locate its movie files... so check your "moviepath" in registry thread HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\.

I've tried to enter invalid path in there and it turned out to behave exactly that way - black screen skippable.

EDIT: oh, sorry for the double-post.. I didn't realize the last entry was mine, it was quite a while ago.
