Can't use USB controller with FF7PC
« on: 2001-11-02 09:09:00 »
Only the keyboard works and it seems like Windows will see it under Game Controllers, but FF7 won't. My usb controller seems to work fine otherwise with other programs, just not ff7.

Any ideas?

Tried that. My problem changes...now the graphics are all screwy. That's after I apply the TNT patch as well...(w/o it, all I can do is software rendering). Haven't tried the Riva ZX patch tho...maybe I should give that a shot...?  :???:

At least the controls work fine...funny thing is that it seemed to work on WinXP before using the converter...I did get the compatibility patches on MS's Windows Update, tho; maybe they're at fault???

Well, unless they fixed it. I don't think they did.  FF7 will fail as soon as you race your Chocobo on the new OS's

Oh, great, now I can't get Knights of 'Round, I guess...

Using a GeForce2 GTS, for those who want to know.

I'll have to continue trying then...

I don't have much help for you.  I had the same problem using a Gravis Eliminator Aftershock.  All I did was sit for half an hour, and uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers in different ways.  Eventually it worked.  I've got a Geforce2mx 400 64MB, and I tried the hardware mode, but the colors get all messed up.  Oh well.

Tried removing the partition and reinstalling the game and WinXP, seems to work fine. Turns out that the graphical issues are apparent on the following games and Detonator driver combinations:

14.90 No issues.

21.83 (Current WHQL drivers) Graphical issues on FF8

22.80 (latest beta drivers) No issues on FF8, but encounted graphical corruption in FF7.

Special note: On all of these games it is important to install the Riva TNT patch for FF7, but do NOT click on the Nvidia box. Simply select D3D acceleration and leave Nvidia unchecked as it seems to work better.

Still haven't figured out what caused the input control issue tho...I'll be keeping a close eye on this one.

UPDATE on Nvidia driver compatibility.

21.83 Drivers cause graphical corruption on both FF7 and FF8 with GeForce2 GTS cards.

Does anyone use a GeForce3 with these games?  If so, what issues have you encounted? Please let me know.

Haha. You should have the N-Vidia box checked when running FFVII even with new drivers. I bet it crashed when you chcecked it! You need to disable 8 Bit Pattled textures in your drivers. You can do that with Riva Tuner. Any one know where one can get Riva Tuner now tweak files is gone?

Running it normally with the TNT patch will remove any graphic (but mostly in my experience fuzy text) problems that may occur.

Thanks Sir Cane, I'll try that.  I'm downloading RivaTuner right now at:

http://guru3d.com/download/RivaTuner20RC71.zip

Hope this helps.

Actually, that link above kept stopping on me.  Try this one instead:

ARgh!!!

I'm using Windows XP so the RivaTuner won't work with that. Is there another utility made for Win2K/XP that can disable/enable 8-bit texturing?
