Missing sound effects in FFVIII (FF8)
« on: 2007-03-03 07:40:40 »
This game is starting to irritate me. First I cant ly it with Hardware rendring, cause of the ugly black boxes it creates. So I change it to software rendring. But now I suddenly get these ugly lines in my menu screens. OK, I simply change to the non-geforce patch, and that problem is solved. So now my graphics is at least playable. Then I suddenly discover that I have absolutely no sound effects within the game. Probably didn't discover it before because I was busy with the graphics problem.

But anyway, the music works fine, no problem there, but no matter what I do I'm unable to get the sound effects to play. I've installed the new configurator but that made no difference at all. Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this problem? I'm running win xp, geforce 7300 GS and Realtek HD Audio.

Oh, and about the configurator, I had to use the V2 version. In the V2.2 version, whenever I went to the controller tab and back to another tab I got an access violation, and I was unable to change thecontroller buttons in any way. But V2 works fine so it's no problem.

Hi DarkBane848, what did you do?

I have a similar problem with FFVII and have not been successful trying to find a workaround for it. Maybe you can help me out?

I went with a brute force solution. Since I was only using the built-in sound card I simply installed a new sound card, in this case an old sound blaster audigy card I had laying around. And when it still didn't work I got irritated and ended up reinstalling windows. After that it worked like a charm.
