Game Editing Tutorials?
« on: 2007-04-29 09:00:42 »
Hay all, my first post. ^^

So, does anybody know if there are any tutorials for editing FF7? I was trying to change Cloud to a ShinRa MP Soldier, which worked fine in the map but crashed when entering a battle, and I also tried changing Vincent's and Sephiroth's places. That time it looked so horrible in the map I didn't even get to test it in a battle..

Hello! ^^ I am so glad to see someone trying to make a cloud a MP in the field and battle. I did that, and I think I could make you a tutorial for you, but could you be a bit more precise on WHAT you want to edit in FF7PC? I'll send you a PM with the tutorials after you tell me what you want to edit.

Wouldn't it be better for the community if the tutorials were public so that more than one person can beneft?

true true, I think that would benefit the community, but what type of tutorial do you want? a kimera replacement tutorial, a hex editor replacement tutorial, or something else? I'll put the tutorial up here then as a downloadable item because of bandwidth problms that some people have.

Well, ANY kinda tutorial would be great, but I think hex editor tutorial would be easiest.

I myselfwouldn't be able to write a hex editor tutorial since it's very precise an alters quite a bit, but I'll work on a kimera replacement tutorial, battle/field tutorial, how to get tifa working tutorial,(tifa's hip screws up when you try to change it to something.) I'll begin work on it today.

At this point, I'd settle for a "tutorial" explaining how to export TEX files as BMP, but properly palletized. As seen here

Thanks for reminding it ice_cold513 but... that FAQ is horribly outdated. I don't know if it will be of any use right now.

Yeah of course it will be of use.  All the basics of ff7 model editing is in it.  Of course the Kimera part is outdated.... but still.

Speaking of tutorials It would be nice to get a good on on editing the ff7 text. I wanted to make a prodigy ver and there is just so much text and I am pretty sure there is a lot that is redundant and or never used. I would need to find a way to figure out what needs to be edited and what will never be seen. Also how to add more dialog to certain points and make a conversation a little longer.
