FFVIII PC Crash on Disc 2 (Missile Base)
« on: 2007-08-05 22:33:59 »
For some reason, my game crashes (or, more specifically, freezes, with the music still playing in the background) when I try to enter the Missile Base on Disc 2.  I have tried a friend's copy of the game to see if it was a problem with the disc, and I am able to get a little farther (but not much).  With his disc, Selphie & crew are able to drive through the gate of the base, and then the game suddenly crashes.

I have tried several times, and I always get the same results with both copies of Disc 2 (these are authentic copies of the game and not burned ones).  I have also tried the discs on my laptop, and I get the exact same errors.  I find it hard to believe that both copies could crash at almost the exact same point on two different computers (with two different versions of Windows at that), but I also find it hard to believe that both discs could be corrupt at that same point in the game.

Any ideas?

P.S.  Here are some of my computer's specs

Ha ha.  I had almost gotten sick of messing around with the game, trying to get it to work, and I decided to reinstall it.  I hadn't told it to install all the data files the first time around, so I decided to it this time, and somehow that did the trick.  I now have no problem getting into the missile base.  Thanks to any and all who may have viewed this post in the last few hours!

its that your disc is scratched. If you really want to check it for sure if I'm right, go and try to burn it, if it is scratched it will not burn it and say there is dust or scratch etc.. A good way to solve it is to get another disc(download ISO off P2Ps) and burn it on a cd from there.
