Weird slowdowns, Final Fantasy VII PC
« on: 2007-10-14 00:56:52 »
Hi guys, I would appreciate to get some help on a small problem I got with my Final Fantasy VII PC.

The thing is that I have the game working just fine on XP at the moment(no black-screens etc.). But, after 2-3 minutes of play, a strange slowdown occur.

Everything starts to move like it was in slow motion, but the music plays like it would be "normal play". After another 2-3 minutes the game gets back to normal speed again. And yet, after 2 minutes more, it once again goes back to slow-mo!

Anyone who has heard of this problem before? I have googled around and checked some other forums, but nothing...

The thing is that I had the game running in Win 98' some years ago (same computer) and then it worked perfectly. Currently I also have Final Fantasy VIII PC installed on my computer, and that one works to 100%, no slow downs or glitches of any kind.

My computer:
Acer 1360 (laptop)
AMD Sempron 800MHz
191MB RAM
64MB Unichrome PRO Graphic chipset

Any help would be extremely appreciated!

Thanks!

P.S. Sorry for my bad English

EDIT: Maybe I should also mention that I use a game pad to play the Final Fantasy games on my computer.

Anything running in the background? Also, mobile versions of CPUs can change its speed on the fly, and that could be a problem with a type of frame limiter used in FF7 (rdtsc - based). Dunno if that would work, but you can try 1.00 version of ff7.exe with cyrix patch installed and see if it behaves the same. I'd check the things running in the background first, though...

Wow, thanks a lot! It actually works!

I had tried quite a few things before, but I had never heard of this patch. But it works to almost 100%. The things is that the slowdowns still occur every 2-3 minutes, but they only last for 1-2 seconds now instead of 2-3 minutes. Now I can finally play it again. Thanks!

How to solve strange speed issues.

1) set your power management under desktop properties to "ALways On."  This wil disable your cpus speed switching.
2) If you have a dual core, try using a core affinity setting program to tell the game to use only one cpu.

These together wil solve the problem.
