ff8 fps drop...need help

hey guys, i reinstalled my ff8 pc, also made imgs of the cds and using those now
i also get those weird black boxes, but software mode fixes it
they problem now is that, after the beginning eidos logo movie, the fps drop tremendously and now ranges anywhere from 2-35, mostly stays below 20
i dont know what the problem is, and i tried searching the forums/google...anyone else have the same problem?
i used FRAPS to monitor the fps; i've tried turning off all the 3d settings in the nvidia control panel...still now help
i'm running XP on intel c2d 2.4ghz, 2gb ddr2 ram, 8800gts 640mb
any way to fix this?

8800 Graphical Glitches

Their problems were fixed with a driver update and modifying some settings.  Not sure if it will work for you, but it's a start.  FF8 may be tricky...
