ff8 game crashes..please i need help

I've been trying to play this game properly for 4 to 5 years and i still can't play it...........i finished ff7 with all the patches i could find and now its the same for ff8............At first there is this crash at the fmv sequence when the game starts....after a long time i managed to bypass it by setting the movie resolution to low....worked like a charm even though the patches couldn't and as i went further into the game it crashed at the dance with rinoa after the SeeD exam......changing movie resolution to high only resulted in showing me a little more of the dance.......i used a different save file after the dance..but now it crashes....when i've inserted the code and the trains are about to separate.............will i never get to play this game properly.....please if anyone knows how to fix this .................Help me

My computer is: Intel pentium 4 HT
                       512 MB ram
                       256 MB ATI RADEON X200 graphics card

oh....i forgot to mention in my ff8config.exe the 8 bit paletted texture shows fail

damaged disc most likely.  or that shitty raedon card

download a new FF8 disc.

i'm sure the disc is fine..........as for the card i don't really know.........could be that the files inside are corrupted..... .what a mess...playing final fantasy is surely hard work.............in order to finish ff7 i had to use other save files........for me downloading new ff8 disc is gonna take a really long time........but i'll try....any other suggestions would be much appreciated

It's not a damaged CD. I've been having this same exact problem ever since I purchased the game years ago. And yes, I have updated to v1.2 These are the following FMVs that are prone to freezing the game every now and them:

****FF8 SPOILERS AHEAD****

CD1

1) Intro sequence.

2) Any sequence in between the Dollet mission (First SeeD mission) and the Night dancing.

3) Edea speech sequence at the Deling City mission.

CD2

Pretty much any FMV from disc 2 is prone to freezing the game, specially the one where the Garden becomes a floating vehicle. Although the Galbadia Garden invasion went by fine in this last playthrough.

CD3

The only one I have had a problem with so far is the one where the three Ragnaroks are taking Adel to the Moon in Laguna's story.

CD4

None that I know of.

The weird thing is that the music keeps playing, but the game engine is completely frozen. Most times I can't even Ctrl + Alt + Del out of it, I have to hard reset my computer and try again.

I'm a computer expert, and I have absolutely no idea what may be causing this. It's definitely not a hardware issue, since any hardware I have tested the game with came up with the same problem. It's not a codec pack issue either, since this game doesn't use them to render the movies. I even left FF8.exe in the excluded list just to make sure. Also not a corrupted file issue, since I've tried downloading the ISOs and the same problem ocurred with them.

My best guess is that it's a bug left unchecked by the Square staff.

well.....this stinks big time......but neways thnx for the reply and WOW u must have checked out all the problems....well i might just give up playing this game.....In the mean time i'm finishing "Fable".....itz not like i'll die without playing it..........but ur crashes and my one are different..............it just goes back to Windows and says it encountered a problem and i was able to bypass the intro sequence without a problem by setting the movie resolution to low....and there was no problem in the dollet mission..........well, it would have been cool if i could play...but thats OK...again thanx

Well, if it just goes back to Windows then in your case it must be a corrupted movie file. You'll probably solve it by getting an alternate CD. Also, don't forget to update your FF8.exe to version 1.2, since that version fixes all the random back-do-desktop crashes.

EDIT: BTW, don't give up FF8 yet. Just because this stuff happens with me, doesn't mean it will happen with you. There are countless people who play through the entire game with no problems at all.
