two weird patterns or coincidences?

I've been playing this game recently (FFvii), since the first time i've played i never really finished the game past disk one. But i've noticed some strange patterns....

For example if im facing a dragon enemy (like the green one in nibelhiem(sp?) and the blue one before the two headed dragon), unless tifa is dead every single fire attack they use is directed at her. I don't know why it just so happens it does, so aslong as tifa doesn't die in my party the dragons will always direct there flame attacks at her... which is convenient if i have a fire ring equiped on her.

Second one is deathblow, i have this materia equipped on cloud the entire time since i've had it, since cloud limit bars are harder to fill it up for bosses if it does get filled up instead of using the limit ill use deathblow. I can almost predict when deathblow will hit about 6-7 times out of 10, meaning that if it hits I'll know it will hit 6-7 times out of 10 before i use it. How do i know? theres a weird pattern here i can predict the hits, but i cant predict the misses at all. (im not saying im a genius or anything, but there is definitely a pattern for the hits)

Anyways these two patterns are kinda out of the ordinary, which well make them noticeable... Im just wondering if anyones noticed this as well, or maybe a different pattern that kinda sticks out.

In the case of Flamethrower, if Tifa is dead and the other two characters are both alive, does it also always target the same one, or is it random?

If it's the same one always, check if there's a condition which the new target fulfills more than the 3rd person, but Tifa is even more fulfilling of. It could be, for example, that he always targets the character with the lowest HP or lowest level.

well tifa is second strongest in my party, and im not at that point in the game to check anymore. but my character levels are like this


Vincent - 2 levels lower than cloud
Tifa - 1 level lower then cloud
Cloud -whatever level i  was at those points.


and at the time tifa died, it targeted Vincent once than i was able to ressurect tifa right back afterwards.
