Question about installing multiple patches...
« on: 2008-03-29 23:08:06 »
Hi, everyone. I hope I'm posting this in the right place. Recently, I've finally got my hands on a legit copy of Final Fantasy VII for the PC, discs and all. I'd like to install both the Reunion patch and the NPC Reconstruction patch. Is there any particular order I'd want to install the patches in? I'd like to know in advance before I go off and test it out. I'd rather having to fresh install, if possible.

Thanks in advance to any replies; it's much appreciated. :)

EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure which patches I need anymore. The end result I want is, generally, for the field characters to not look like midgets. I'm aware I need to use the NPC Reconstruction patch for that, but what patch do I need to have the same effect on my playable characters?

The NPC reconsstruction patch changes you're field characters, with only occasional 'blocky' models unchanged, they are few and far between, and to be honest don't really spoil the new look in my oppinion.  A few blocky models are more than made up for by Cloud and co. and a large amount of NPC's looking like battle models.  As for which one to install first, reunion or NPC reconstruction, my advice (differs from person to person) is just install the NPC reconstruction patch, as the models from the reunion patch are included in the NPC reconstruction patch I beileve, please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Sorry about rambling a bit there, just that I installed both, they work fine together btw, and after I removed the reunion patch, I noticed nothing different with just the NPC reconstruction patch alone.
If this hasn't helped AT ALL, I apologise, for making you read all this  :-P

The NPCRP doesn't change the battle models.  Only the field models are changed.  There is another patch someone created that updates Cloud's battle model to look like the one from the final battle.   I think that's it for the original characters though.

Tidus_Lionheart: No, you've completely answered my question. Your post was extremely helpful. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. :D

I'll probably just install the NPC Reconstruction Patch by itself, then. I thought that Cloud, Barret, Tifa, etc. would remain their short blocky selves, if I didn't install the Reunion patch. Thanks again, man.

obesebear: Thanks for the information. The only models I really want changed are the field models, considering the battle models are already pretty proportional.

Glad I could be of help man  :-)
But know that the NPCR mod only changes field characters, on the world map, Cloud is still his short blocky self, I know there is however, a patch to change this also, but I'm not sure which one.  Posiblly even the Reunion patch and I didn't notice the last time, but if you can live with a blocky cloud for the small amount of time (in comparison) spent on the world map, it shouldn't be too much of a trouble.

I use NPCRP v.6 and all my main characters look like their battle counterparts.

I actually prefer having Cloud short and stocky on the world map. That way, he doesn't seem to tower over the towns and whatnot. Unfortunately, for some reason, FFVII refuses to work on my Vista laptop. Which is strange, considering the Ultima/Bootleg version worked without a problem. I'll keep working at it until I can get it working, though.

Is it by chance you're anti-virus? saying it's found a worm or something?
If so, this happened when I installed also, switch off the anti-virus, during installation, and during playing the game, I can assure you if this is the case, there is no actual virus within FFVII's discs, but depending on the anti-virus, it can sometimes pick one up for some reason.

I don't believe so... I'll describe the error below.

I double-click the ff7.exe file, and the screen goes black, as if going into full screen mode. I hear the Eidos FMV intro sound, but the screen remains black. After the Eidos sound, another sound begins, but abruptly stops. Then Task Manager says the program is not responding. To sum it up, I hear a sound, but I get no visuals whatsoever.

The issue occurs when I try to play the game using the actual discs, and also when I mount the first disc image from the actual drive. I have the Chocobo Race patch, the 1.02 patch, and the directshow video codec installed. I'm running Vista from a laptop with a 1.8 Ghz processor and 2Gb of RAM.

I'm not asking you to help me find out what's wrong; it's a lot of work, and I know it'd be a hassle. I'm just posting these specs for the off chance that someone wants to pursue it. :D

Hmm not from the top of my memory, but I do recall something similair happening when I had this installed on my XP PC, I'll re-install later today, because it would never work, I fixed it eventually.  As I said I'll re-install on my XP PC, and see if I can re-solve the problem, if so I'll be sure to let you know  :-)
(Whatever I do to fix the XP problem, I'm pretty sure it'd sort any Vista errors also :-P

I do get around alot haha, I'm on break from college, but I'll slowly disapear after next Monday :-P
But you shouls use the NPCRP as it's also easer imo to install than Reunion.
Btw, I tried installing it on XP again, same problem, currently trying to figure out what I done to fix it.
If yo uhave already fixed it, any chance of advice to save the work again? :-P
