FF7 black screen after opening movie
« on: 2008-04-15 14:36:16 »
It seems FF7 wants to be stubborn for me. Recently got a new computer and decided I wanted to play some FF7. So installed it yesterday, and came across 90% of the problems people have had with the game and running it in the nefarious Vista OS. So I read through a good many posts here and fixed the problems I was experiencing. (Black screen, No sound, Bad midi quality)

Now the Gods have seen fit to bless me with another problem. The screen goes black after the opening movie. I can hear the sound effects of the soldiers getting whooped and then the sound of cloud jumping from the train and landing. And then I can see the text box where Barret tells you to follow him, and I can close the text box. But all the while the screen is black. I'm assuming I still have control over Cloud as I can 'continue' Barret's conversation, so I don't think it's frozen.

Maximum Install
1.02 Patch
TrueMotion Patch, though the codec is disabled through K-Lite

Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_ldr.071023-1545)
AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor @ 2G
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT

And after digging through thread after thread, I came across a post that relates to my particular problem almost 100%, albeit the Riva solution didn't work for me. Firstly 'cause it won't run under vista, so I used XP/SP2 compatibility mode, got it running but cannot adjust any settings or else it crashes.

Let me know if theres any more information I can supply.

What .dll's do you need? I might could get them from my XP comp if I have them.

Edit 1:
I'm not sure if I'm having the problem anymore. I took my old save file from my XP machine and transferred it to the Vista machine and it runs well. My only concern is when an FMV is playing and you can move Cloud around, It messes up and keeps me moving on the same level (height or whatever you want to call it) as the FMV progresses. Kind of like if there wasn't an FMV playing and it was a normal background. (Example: When you need to use the elevator in Junon after you climb the tower up from the town below.)
