Strange Battle Model Problem
« on: 2008-04-19 14:58:46 »
I've had this problem since I've been running the game on the 1280x1960 high res pack. I can find no solution myself so I wonder if anyone here can solve this problem for me?

During a battle the enemy models do not display properly:

It is usually only the torso and/or head of the model that is not displayed but the more enemies there are on-screen the less polygons there are per enemy. If there are two Shinra Soldiers both missing heads and torsos and one is killed then the other regains both it's lost body parts. This is not exclusive to enemies though, it also happens with summons:

I think the more models there are on screen the less polygons they each have and vice versa.

Sorry if I sound inexperienced, it's just... well, I am...

I also have another minor problem; because my monitor will only display quite unique resolutions I am running the game using Ficedula's Cetra's "Windowed" patch (I tried FF7w but for some reason it won't work for me). When running FMVs there are large, black columns running down the screen:

I have tried using TrueMotion and the K-Lite Codec Pack and neither of them have made a difference.

I have had various problems running Final Fantasy VII for the first time on Vista, all of which I have solved, except for these two. Once these are out of the way I should be able to run the game perfectly.

I'm sure there are people out there who have infinitely more knowledge of the game than I have and can solve this problem.

By the way, I am running Vista Home edition on Service Pack 1 and using a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card. Just ask for more information.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

EDIT: After playing through the game some more it appears that I also affects the field models as well (I assume I didn't notice this before because of the low quality of the standard field models). When I got to the AirBuster scene the cockpit of the helicopter that appears wasn't there.

EDIT2: I tried running the game without the Hi-Res path again and the all the models are fine with nothing missing from them. Hi-Res error, maybe?

The black bars will disappear if you set the color depth to 16bpp. No idea about the models though.

Thanks for the reply. Damn, I feel so stupid now. But yes, the model problem is rather curious, I viewed various field models through Ifalna and there was nothing wrong with them  :?.
