FF7 on Windows Vista
« on: 2008-06-17 17:20:06 »
On the other hand I tried FF7 on another computer (on a Vista one) and it worked perfectly except for the sound.  The sound/music was very jerky and interfeered with gameplay.  I tried the loopbe program and now I can't get the game to play MIDI music!  It will only work with the ff7music.exe application.  That DOES work except for long delays in starting up tunes and occsional lockups in the ff7music application.

So how do I get the sound strightened up on my Vista computer?

Thanks!

"Downgrade" to XP. Vista right now sucks immensely.

XP > Vista (At least right now. This should change in 1 or 2 years from now. Until then, stick with the stable XP)

FFVII works fine on Vista. What happens on vista is the midi music runs on the same sound channel as the sound. Terid__K, telling him that "vista sucks" doesn't help his problem, and it has nothing to do with what's causing his problems. Vista making ffvii run differently on that it does on XP has nothing to do with Vista's crappiness. This is just a case of compatibility problems.

Vista does suck, though, so switching may be a good idea if you're having problems with FFVII or not. However, you can get FFVII to work fine on Vista, it just takes some tweaking.
FF7 takes a lot of tweaking to get working if it's not working properly. Change the settings of your out_wave or out_ds file. I recommend out_wave as it has worked better for me.
For sound, try to change what your ff7config settings are. If your soundcard is configurable, fool around with its settings. Also, try different compatibility modes for ff7.exe as well (98/2000 works great on my bro's vista computer).

You should be able to eventually get ff7 working fine on vista. You just gotta dig a bit and change some settings.

What would you suggest I change, cause I have no idea what i'm doing.  I did manage to play FF7 all night, but I had to keep alt+tabbing every time ff7music froze up!

But I guess changing settings is worth a try!

I agree.  I like Windows XP way way better than Vista.  But FF7 in this instance works better on my Vista computer than my XP one.

P.S.  I FINALLY beat the motorcycle chase!!! :D  and the YAMP patch works like a charm!!!  I can't wait to Choco race, that's one of my favorite activites in FF7 (and for that matter all of FF)!!!

Ah, I had that problem with FF7 music. I think I know what you're talking about. Do this: Change ff7music.exe's compatibilty settings. I accidentally turned mine to 98.2000 compatiblity, which caused ff7music.exe to freeze. Change it to NO COMPATIBILITY and it might work, just like mine.

There's a problem running FF7 on Vista now.  When I enter the Gold Saucer, the vidoes play up but after that, the screen goes black!

Skipping the videos didn't work at all -- the same black screen showed up.

Can anyone tell me how to fix it?
