FF7 freeze
« on: 2008-06-21 01:52:45 »
I have been playing FF7 on my computer for quite a while without out problem.  A couple of days ago I encountered my first though.  The game freezes as Cloud climbs to the top of Gaea's cliff and the game transfers to a movie.  A few seconds into the crater movie the video freezes and I have to restart the computer.  The faq in the version of the game referred me here, so here I am asking for help.  I searched the forum for this freeze, and it appears to have happened to several other people..  However, no one listed a solution as to how they got through it.  I have tried dziugo's patch to get through the cut scene, but it doesn't work.

Does anyone have any ideas to get around this.  I can post my save if someone is willing to play through the freeze for me.

Maybe you got your movie files corrupted. Sometimes happens if you have the CD broken or just you have downloaded the game from internet ;)

Shortly after writing this my computer had some problems and had to go in for repair.  I got my computer back two days ago.  i hoped the problem was from what you suggested, a damaged cd, but when I rewrote the disc I still had the same problem.  I then used ultraiso to fix the movie.  I replayed the game and got past the movie, but I got another shut down error five minutes later.  The game was downloaded from a reputable source on a private so I know that is not the problem.  I am already 2/3 of the  way through the game.  My last hope is for someone to play through to the next savepoint for me.

I had the same problem at different intervals, but it was just because i had a scratched disc.

Have you downloaded or installed any patches on your computer? Or anything else pertaining to the game? If so, then they might be clashing with the programing of the disc.

Also, are you playing on a Vista? A few friends of mine mentioned that Vista causes problems with FF7.

My computer runs on XP and no, the version of game that I downloaded is not the Ultima edition.  The person who I downloaded it from put the game together with about 10 different patches, both official and unofficial.  He made sure the game worked on his xp computer all the way through before putting it up for download.  I played the game 2/3 of the way through before experiencing the first problem.  A few days after that I got a bad virus and was forced to reformat my hd.  I then had to reinstall the game and and burn thlso dowe discs.  I also downloaded and installed the proper drivers, but I still experienced the same freeze in the same place.

Where did you download it from? If it isn't a hundred percent reputable source, then you might have downloaded something extra, even if by accident. Have you completely reinstalled everything?

I downloaded it from the torrent site revolution  tt.  The uploader seemed pretty reputable.  He had put together the game with a bunch of patches and mods.  There were also about 80 or so comments from others who downloaded and played.  The uploader even pointed us to this site if anyone had trouble.

When I reformatted I did reinstall everything.  The game worked flawlessly for about 20 minutes until the freeze.
