FF7 Modding Questions
« on: 2008-07-07 14:34:18 »
Ok, I am a pretty big noob when it comes to FF7 modding. Basically, what I want to be able to do is, during battles, replace Cloud's model with the model that is listed as "Soldier 1st" in Leviathan.(as well as replace other party member's battle models at some point) Based on my limited understanding, I think it would just involve replacing some of Cloud's battle files in the kernel with "Soldier 1st's." Is that correct? And if so, what programs would I need to be able to do this?

Also, how would this switch affect animation? Could I use "Soldier 1st's" basic slash animation as the animation that plays when I select attack in a battle? And, since Soldier 1st doesn't have animations for using materia, I assume he will just freeze, but the magic will carry out anyway, correct?

Thanks in advance! :)

Okay, what you do is you extract the files in the LGP, which you most probably have already done. Then download a program called Kimera. Open up clouds model in Kimera and then open up Soldier 1st in another Kimera (Open up 2 Kimeras)

Now what your doing is swapping the body parts.
Double click on the body part you want to swap. I.E. The head, of both models. and a window will pop up for each head, Cloud's and Soldier 1st's. At the top of the window will be a file name made with Letters/Numbers. I cant remember if it has letters and numbers or one or the other.
Now write down the file name for each.

Go into the folder with the files you extracted from the lgp and find those 2 file names. Find the one for Soldier 1st class and copy it somewhere. I.E. your desktop. Now rename it to what Clouds head's file name is and then paste it back into the folder that you extracted and replace it.

So in other words.

Soldier 1st's head = XXXX
Cloud's head = YYYY

Copy and paste XXXX to desktop and rename it to YYYY
Then copy and paste it back into your folder, thus Cloud now having a Soldier 1st head.

Repeat this for every body part

It's simple and Cloud with have every animation he had to start with he just has a new look.
Your pretty much swapping body parts around.

Weapon Swapping:
I suppose you want to give Cloud, Soldier 1st's weapon?
To do this. Double click on Soldier 1st's weapon and get the file name, copy that to desktop.
Find Cloud's sword. It should be a P file somewhere after his body parts in the folder you extracted.
Write down Cloud's sword name and rename the sword you put on the desktop to the file name for Cloud's sword then copy and paste that file back into the folder.

When you've finished Cloud open LGPTools and click create. Choose the folder you extracted, then choose the original LGP (I think it's battle.lgp) then click ok. It will take a while to finish, go make a sandwich while you wait or something. If you click on it while it's processing it will probably stop responding.

Finally, after ALL THIS.... You must..... Post pics.
 :-D :-D :-D :-D

Thanks alot for the reply, it really helped me out! The model was replaced successfully and all the animations work right. Unfortunately, I can't find Cloud's sword for the life of me! All of the remaining files that start with RT (since Cloud's model was RTAA, I assume all files that start with RT are related to him) give me errors when I try to open them. Any suggestions?

When I come home from school today I'll find it for you!

-----------------------------------------Edit---------------------------
Actually I decided to do it before school!
Clouds swords start at rtck and end at rtcz.
I find sometimes I can't open a file so I have to first of all open the actual model first.
So open up RTAA then open in the same Kimera RTCK.
It works trust me.
Now I gotta rush to get to school on time!!!!

Wow. Very nice!
I know alot of the big modders on here won't really benefit from a 1 character swap but why don't you post this as a patch? Or maybe make a few more models? You could try Dyne and Barret, even know you would have to have Dynes bad arm be his right and Barret's his left! Or maybe you could make a few more Shinra employees? I'm not sure which ones. Maybe different classes for different people. It's always good to see a new modder.  :-P
Yeah, the ones you didn't use where animations and TEX files which are texture for his eyes, his mouth and the logo on his belt.

Yea, I was planning on turning other party members into other Shinra enemies as well. I was also thinking about using Scotch (bkaa) for someone, but I would prefer using his firing animation and his, for lack of a better term, "just standing there" animation while keeping the rest of the original party member's animations. Would that be possible?

Edit: Well, I read up on animation on the Qhimm wiki and I'm pretty sure it's possible but far too complicated for me...Yet another question: Is it possible to give Barrett a hand in Kimera? I want to swap him with Scotch but the bone count is off because of Barrett missing his hand. Obviously Barrett's right hand model does not exist, but could I attach Scotch's hand model to Barrett's arm model? It would look weird until I swapped the rest of his files with Scotch's, but it would work, right?

Well, you don't need to swap every single piece, you can mix and match if you like! Anyway If you really want to you could add it in yes by clicking on his bottom arm and click add part to bone and choose the hand. Heres the tricky part, it will most probably go inside his arm so move his arm, retrieve the hand, move it to the correct position and move the arm back. Now when you play the game the hand will be covered by a gun so go into his weapon files, and click once on his gun, now under bone options, move the X, Y and Z bars to 0. Then save, test, and show results! :-P

Nice!
I was just thinking, if you download and install the NPC Reconstruction patch, the characters on field look the same as in battle. That means you could then try and replace Cloud's field model with Soldier 1st's battle model and Cid's Field Model with Scotch's battle model!
I've been meaning to try something like that but I'm too busy with my FFX mod =/
