Two FF8 questions: Music volume and disc images
« on: 2008-08-29 14:12:25 »
I've had no luck asking this on other forums, since people seem to busy discussing whether Seifer or Squall would in a fight.

First off, I'd like to know if it's at all possible to lower the volume of the music. I know that there's an in-game option to turn the sound effects down, but the music remains just as loud. Is there anything at all that lets you change this, program, mod or otherwise? For the record, I don't want the music gone, just the volume lowered.

The second question: I noticed in the tweaking thread that it was suggested to make CD images to speed up loading time between screens. However, how are you supposed to change discs when prompted? I'm using DAEMON Tools, but I can't alt-tab to change the discs or anything. So, what I'm really asking is if it's at all possible to minimize FF8 in any way, again through programs, mods or otherwise.

Hoping somebody can help me out. :)

Thanks.

The game lets you save before switching discs. Save the game, exit it, mount the next image on Daemon, start the game again then load that save.

Or do it like me and get yourself a No-CD crack.

Cool, thanks. :) Well, that's one problem down.

Not too hopeful about the music volume, but maybe I'll get lucky.

This is for your volume problem.
Go into Final Fantasy VII Configuration (You can find it in the start menu)
Go into the MIDI tab. If the Logarithmic Volume Control is checked, uncheck it, and if it is unchecked, check it. Understand what I mean?
Then go into game and test it again.

------------------------EDIT---------------
Just re-read your post. Ingame there is an option for sound effects AND music....

Oh, whoops.... Wrong game.... :-(

Damn, got me all excited too. Thanks for the reply, though. :) Makes you wonder why the previous game had an option for it, when FF8 doesn't.

Deactivate EAX in the configurator.

Its techincally DirectMusic right with the DLS samples etc?
That means it is played through DirectSound via DirectX (no real hardware accelaration as far as I remember).
The Master volume in the volume control panel will effect both midi and fx.
