Final Fantasy 7 background images come up as black, help?

Hi guys,

I recently (re)purchased Final Fantasy 7 and have it operating on XP with the XP patch. I was able to get hardware rendering to operate. Unfortunately, none of the stationary backgrounds show up! The characters render fine, as do the backgrounds in battle sequences. Movies also work fine. During normal game play however, any stationary backgrounds appear black, and any characters or rendered objects are floating in blackness. Obviously the background images aren't loading correctly.

In software mode everything works fine (so far), but obviously the graphics quality is inferior.

Can anyone help me out with this one?

If you're using AnimeVamp's XP patch, then I highly suggest you reinstall your game because that patch is bad. You don't really need any XP patch to get FF7 running on your computer. WHat you need is Truemotion Codec 2.0 and The Chocobo Patch.
