Does your FF7 "Crash" after the opening scene?
« on: 2008-12-04 19:54:05 »
Well does it!? after mine crashed alittle while ago (just reinstalled the game because its super awesome) and after the opening scene just before i see cloud jump out of the train my screen went black i kept saying "CRAP IT CRASHED" but all i had to do is "RUN FORWARD" very simple yet effective... you dont need any codecs or any of this rubbish on your computer just run forward if your game crashes where i said mine crashed and you will go into the battle with the 2 shinra soldiers... defeat them and your game will play as normal!

Sorry if someone already posted something like this but i think it will help some other people...

You can "just" open up the Menu, and then close it immediately.

Oh, and the right setup of codecs (especially the avi splitter problem sorted out) is actually what you might want to have - or you'll "crash" at other parts of the game (CosmoCanyon, GoldSaucer, etc.)

If the movies are actually playing and you still get the black screen after the starting FMV, then what you should do is uninstall "a bunch of codecs" which you probably  don't really need, or take some time (30 seconds) and tweak them.

And the freeze at GoldSaucer and CosmoCanyon is caused by the same problem, so if it didn't freeze at the date scene, it wouldn't freeze at the observatory scene. You must have changed something in your system configuration between those scenes.

I'll post this here too.

theres a tool called "g-spot" which is a codec tool can be found here --> http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

when you open this tool, open one of the ff7 fmv's through it, on the bottom left there are rows of buttons

one for vid, audio, and one for both.

press 1 under vid if you do not see the following then you have a codec issue which causes the freezing with vids and improper display.

your list should look similar to what is below.

"src ->>(A) avi splitter > (B) true motion 2.0 decompressor > (C) video renderer" followed by status not yet rendered.

if you proceed to press 2 and 3 you should get video playback or audio playback depending on your selection.

if you press 1 and then 2 under a/v section you should get complete playback of both features.

If you run into more problems feel free to message me so I can give you a detailed guide
