FF7 Hi-Res Patch
« on: 2009-04-13 11:18:09 »
Hi People

I've always been a fan of FF7 and have just come across loads of mods for it, but I'm having trouble getting them to work. First of all the Saints High-Re patch is being a pain. I've installed the game fresh and patched it to 1.02. I copy the patch over, run it as usual from within the FF7 folder and it says it patches fine. Trouble is when I go to run the game the screen goes all black and it looks like its loading the game up and then it crashes. Any ideas?

Thanks

I also get an accedd violation at 0.00000000 or something when trying to do the hi-res cloud mod. Any ideas? I'm using vista 32. UAC etc is all off

Have you tried changing the compatibility? That was my problem when i installed the 1.02 patch.

yeah i've tried on 95/98/Xp etc but with no avail. I got all the other patches working its just the hi-res patch now. Is it not compatible with vista or something?

Thanks

Does your monitor support the 1280x960 display mode? Check APP.LOG (in the same folder as ff7.exe) for more information on whats going on.

I have the same problem but only because my monitor only goes up to 1280x800. There are 2 images of monitor sizes but only 'Monitor #1' is my default. 'Monitor #2' can go up much higher and even goes to 1280x960, though I can't use those sizes. I don't have a HD monitor if that is what this patch is only made for. Hence why most people can't use it. At least I can only assume so that is just my opinion.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say but the hi-res patch will only work for 1280x960 (or 1280x1024 with the extra patch for that), its a technical limitation of the patch and not a design choice.

I know that now. Before I just hadn't realized it till you mentioned 1280x960 monitor support. Meaning, I didn't know that my computer couldn't use the Hi-Res patch because of my monitor resolution. I thought that maybe it had something to do with my graphics card (Intel Extreme Graphics Mobile 2) but then I read your post about the monitor support and so I double checked my monitor resolutions (I thought it went higher then 800) and realized that it had nothing to do with the patch in the first place but was just not possible to use with my monitor no matter how much I tried to use the 2nd monitor setting which can use 1280x960 & 1280x1024. Anyways, I can be a tad slow sometimes.Well it's just gonna have to stay unattractive looking till I find something that works. :-D   Since I'm stuck with Intel graphics card that uses OpenGL 1.3 and has no shaders at all I can't even use a dam emulator for my PSX cd's (don't have PS anymore). Once I beat the game I'll try out FF8 maybe I'll have more luck with that one. Maybe. lol

PS: Just found your custom driver for FF7 that could work for me. Though I'll wait till you make more progress with it. Good job on that though!   Also, I tend to ramble so I'm sorry about that.

We're going slightly off-topic here but my OpenGL driver currently requires OpenGL 2.0 support (and uses shaders), so that won't be an option unless I decide to implement an OpenGL 1.1 backend using fixed function. (I don't need OpenGL 2.0 or shaders but its so much easier to work with and you get support for special effect shaders for free)

Make sure you are using the version 1.02 patch for Final Fantasy VII and don't install any other patches before the high-resolution one. It should then pass the CRC32 check.
