OS: Xp
Pc: Too good for FF7 ( Nvidia 8800 series )
exe: V.1.02
Mods: NPC RP 0.6m, Saint Hi-res, Battleswirl fix pack thing ( had a few mini game fixes in with it )

Okay just got out of Corel Prison, and have to win the Chocobo Race:

Take 1: Beat Dyne, go up to where the jockeys are - fps hit's about 1, all models turn yellow. Game Crashes.
Take 2: Beat Dyne, go up to where the jockeys are - fps is fine, start the race - Unplayable, screen/race is moving about 1 fps. Give up, try again.
Take 3: Beat Dyne (Getting REALLY SICK of having to click through all the dialogue at this point.), go up to where the jockeys are - fps is fine, start the race - Unplayable, screen/race is moving about 1 fps. Get ahead of the pack with sprinting, fps is fine when there's no other birds. Numpad seems sort of unresponsive though. Get near the end, all the birds sprint and get onto my screen. fps 1. Unplayable. Go from first to last in ~20 seconds. ( Yes the last stretch took nearly as long as the entire race before it. )

After all this time, Still having these sort of issues with this game....Last time I played through, I don't seem to remember having these horrific fps issues with chocobo racing. Perhaps it's because of the hi-res patch? Any ideas other than that?

Won't be happening so don't mention these please: Rollback of drivers, changing of bios, messing with dual core settings. I do too many other things with my PC for these drastic measures to be acceptable.

I get the feeling I'm just f***ed, right?

Yeah, this tends to happen with the D3D driver and modern cards. See the custom graphics driver thread (in tech related forum) for a work in progress that will fix all these issues and more.

Yeah, it cracks me up now that when you try to install the game it says something like "Because FFVII uses the latest in graphic technology, many players find that they need to upgrade their video drivers" or something like that. Did they think that we'd never want to play it after it had become outdated? ??? Stupid Eidos. :-D

Hey thanks for the reply, checked out that thread and it's mainly too tech for me lol. Simple Q about it: Will it fix these stupid fps issues?

It will fix the FPS problem, but it has other issues at the moment and I can't really recommend using it for casual play.
But you could always install it, get past the problem area and then uninstall it, of course.

I'll grind my way past the area eventually, but I'll be looking forward to when you finish your work with the game, it's great to see people using their own time to help other people like this.

What if you find a way to activate V-Sync? Do you have an interface which can force all applications to comply?
