When MIDI volume disappears, so does ALL sound

I'm having a problem where instead of muting or turning down the MIDI music, the game is turning down ALL my sound. My setup is as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 @ 2.6GHz
Realtek High Definition Audio
Windows 7 Beta (Build 7000)
FF7 PC w/1.2 Patch
FF7Music
OpenGL graphics driver (running FF7 at 1680x1050)

I've tried running it without FF7Music, and I get the same problem, so I'm sure that's not it. Is there a way to fix it so that it doesn't try to mute the midi?

edit: I've seen the solutions elsewhere on this board. I already have FF7 set to use LoopBe instead of MS general midi. It doesn't seem to work.

Just open midi.lgp with highwind and delete everything inside it, works wonders.

edit: Yeah, it worked wonders. It got rid of all my music; even FFMusic wasn't doing anything at that point.

No wonder.  Once you assign any music file to corresponding midi file, FF7Music will play assigned music while the game plays original midi file.  So if you have empty(dummy) midi.lgp, FF7Music may not do anything, for there's no corresponding original BGM.  By the way, did you update your sound driver?  Sometimes it will solve the problem, but if not..... I'll pass.

Okay, I got it figured out, it was a combination of problems.

My custom songs were in "C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\Ficedula\custom", and FF7Music was throwing a fit over that. By moving them to F:\ff7m\custom I was able to get FF7 working again. The second thing I did was to change FF7Config.exe to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode, otherwise FF7.exe was ignoring changes made to the config, such as setting my midi to LoopBe (it was still trying to use Microsoft GS). Additionally, FF7Music was being picky about what in_mp3.dll I could use; It threw a fit every time I used the one that came with the latest version of Winamp, and simply didn't do anything with the one that came with Winamp 2.00. Eventually I got it to work using the in_mp3.dll that is bundled with Winamp 2.60.

Once I got all that taken care of, I was able to get rid of all the data in midi.lgp and still have music play. I'll see if my original problem of areas with no music disabling sound effects and FMV sound still persists at this point.

Geez, sometimes I'm distracted and make mistake....(hides in a hole)
Anyway, FF7Music.exe sometimes screw up music path when you save the configuration.  I edit .ini file manually to avoid this issue.
