BEFORE CRISIS SUBTITLED COMING SOON!!

Well I got tired of not really contributing anything to this community other than a helping hand and my opinions. So I've happened upon Before Crisis Vids and I'll be using the translation by a girl known only as Dark Angel to hopefully completely sub over the in-game dialogue. Now, she hasn't completely finished so not ALL of them will be done, but I can still upload what I can do. So if anyone knows of a good program to insert subs with please let me know. Also, from what I understand subbing takes a while so if there are any volunteers please speak up!

Since it's summer I should have plenty of free time to get all of these done in minimal time.

If you give me all the videos and the script with detailed instructions on what goes where I can sub it in flash no problem.

I'm working on all of that right now.Â I want to get all the intricacies figured out so anyone wanting to help will be able to jump right in.Â I've finally got all the videos (with the exception of the special Reno Episode)

Now, I'm not sure what happened to the audio uploading it to youtube, but I don't care enough to reupload it right now. There are still some parts that need to be cut out and I've lowered the file size to 30mb, not to mention a handful of scenes that need subtitles added. But you get the idea.

Grimmy307, if you're still interested in helping, It's VERY easy. Just time consuming. I think the whole episode took about 3 hours from start to finish. 3 hours x 25 episodes = a lot more time than I'd like to spend / have.

Well I'm going to triple post in my own thread since no one else will, lol.

I'm not sure how many people are actually interested in what I'm doing but I have a question for anyone reading this. Would you prefer it if I cut out the meaningless battles with AVALANCHE and leave the major ones with major characters, or should I leave all battles in?

Cutting them out will save a pretty decent amount of time, and nothing is ever learned during them. However, it is kind of weird seeing the player say LET'S BATTLE!! then suddenly the fight is over.

Thoughts?

Since I'm sure you've started on episode 2 why don't you send me like episode 4 or 5. I need the full video and script. I do want to give you a hand, but I started helping the prp and want to see that finished by the end of the summer. However I can do a few episodes at least.

Edit : Well your sub job is better than the one that already exists. Episodes I do will have Text boxes grayed out and new text on top of that if you're okay with that.

Thats fine, just as long as you tell me how you manage to do that. The only way I know of so far is to printscreen a scene, edit the picture, then insert the picture over that section of the video. Of course that is a very time consuming way, and I just don't have the patience for it.

If your way of doing it takes considerably longer than using Movavi, I'd rather keep doing them myself for consistency you know. Once I get them uploaded I'll let you know

In flash you can create layers allong the time line, So you would just draw the square on top of the old one as long as it's on screen and then type the text in a layer on top of that. It's like using photoshop but each frame can be edited with it's own custom layer. It is actually a very simple process. Typing the text would take me longer than the rest of it.

What program do you use for that? Also, since you're doing it in flash I'll upload 2 of the vids I haven't encoded to avi yet.

What I mean is. What is the editing software you use for the flash videos? I can easily convert them to .flv but I am completely unfamiliar with editing them.

Heck I only just learned how to add subtitles a week or two ago. Also, check your PM

I make my cuts with virtual dub. then put all the clips back together in flash, add sounds etc. then export the movie as an .avi.

You're welcome, but it will be a little while. I've finished episodes 1 and 2, and I'm working on episode 5 right now. But each one takes about 5 hours.. and I don't have a ton of time to commit to it unfortunately

I will be getting rid of all the previous work I've done and starting over. Grimmy307 will do all of the editing I'm not familiar with and then send them to me to insert all the dialog.

Although this will definitely take longer, this will give the videos a much more professional look which I think is more than worth the time it will take. A rough estimate of 100% completion is about November. Of course if I get some interest in this it will encourage me to work even harder

I found one more set of videos which include Cissnei (instead of Shotgun F) in the scenes where Zack and Cloud are escaping. This is consistent with the parts in Crisis Core, but can be a little strange suddenly shifting from Shotgun F to Cissnei, and back again. I can probably squeeze in some dialog somewhere that could explain why she has switched places with her for that little part, but was wanting some feedback on it.

So, I need feedback for the following:

1) Should the unimportant battles be edited out (considering doing so is simple)

2) Should I use Cissnei in the Zack & Cloud escape scene instead of Shotgun F who has been the main character thus far.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the meaningless battles cut out. Something I hate about watching FF7 walkthroughs on youtube is trying to fast forward through all of the random battle encounters. I'm not sure what the fighting system is like in BC. But if it's similar - where there are random encounters and the attacks are turn based - then I think it would make viewing better to watch the story unfold without them.

Just my two cents, though.

This is a great project obesebear and grimmy

1. I agree with opine, it may be easier if you skipped over the random battles. But maybe you show the entry into battle, then skip to the end from there, otherwise the video would be jerky and maybe even a little difficult to follow.
On the flip-side, it might be interesting to see the variations of enemies during battles as the game progresses, so skipping over them entirely would remove that additional element.
Your choice

2. Could you not do videos for both?
It would be "proper" to stick with Shotgun F though, if she was the one in most of the chapter primarily, but Cissnei's version of events are more cannon.
I wouldn't mind seeing both sets of events, but if I had to choose, I would say go with Cissnei

The unimportant battles take longer and longer and make the files unnecessarily large. The problem with removing them, like Koral said, is the sound will become kind of jerky. I think that's a sacrifice that needs to be made though. It will keep the files smaller and will hopefully shorten a significant amount of time from the videos as a whole.

As it stands right now, all the videos combined will be 14 hours. Hopefully getting rid of most of the battles will cut it down to 12 hours or so.

Since this project will already be a massive timesink, I may as well subtitle both Cissnei and Shotgun F

Grimmy307, can you give me a step by step tutorial of how you are adding those grey boxes? I can convert to flash... but virtualdub doesn't recognize ".flv" files...

When I say flash I mean the program. I save the videos as avi. At no time do I use the flv format. Step by step instructions will be pointless unless you have flash mx or up. There isn't any freeware alternative to flash that I'm aware of. You might be able to do the same kind of box thing in adobe premiere but I don't know.

Well as some of you may have guessed this didn't really take off the ground. I could still easily do them, but without Grimmy307 adding grey boxes, the finished product just seems... unfinished.

Anyways, I was thinking of uploading all of the videos (including the ones with Cissnei and a special episode of either Tseng or Reno) to a torrent and seeding it out for a few weeks. Maybe someone else could take up the challenge, and it could even inspire me to resume work on them.

But first, would anyone even be interested in this?

Well, I am still interested.
I did notice that someone else on youtube seems to have a translated version up. But it includes every meaningless battle. Watching it is slow-going, and somewhat tedious.

I think doing a version like you had suggested would be superior.
