Kotaku features Penn & Teller's Video Game Bullshit!

Go watch it, it's good.

And holy shit, why did they let him hold the AR-15 like that? I was worried he'd be few teef short of full mouf after that.

Turning people into murderers? Pah, we all know (in light of the recent eroge fiasco) that today's video games will turn people into rapists! (which presumably is why Japan has such a high number of rapes compared to most Western countries).

And it seemed to me that the kid did get hit in the face when he fired that gun (not sure how hard).

Obviously. :-D

Yeah... I noticed. .223 Remington (or 5.56x45mm NATO if the gun was chambered for that... or for both) doesn't have particularly violent recoil, but AR-15 is very light, which does make it worse. Plus, not only was he holding it horribly wrong, he most likely didn't expect the recoil to be so... recoily. :P

I think I was the exact same age first time I fired a real firearm, (a pretty light .243 Winchester hunting rifle, so more ooomph but bit more weight as well, probably pretty close in recoil to that thing overall), and I still remember it. Still being 25 years - or quarter of a century for you n00blets - later, in this case. Clearly I was more l33t than that kid, though, considering that I hit what I was aiming for. :-D

My dad took great care, but the bloody thing still knocked the wind out of me. :-D And gave me a massive bruise. :-P It really didn't help one bit that I was shooting prone, so instead of the recoil pushing my body backwards, my rather juvenile shoulder took the whole brunt.
