The game freezes after Barret is named

So I started a new game and everything is running as smooth as silk. I set Cloud's name and then Barrets.

Right after Barret gets his name he starts running to the side of the screen. After a couple seconds of running the game freezes. I can still hear sound and the video is fine, but I can't move at all or progress in the game.

Any idea on how to fix this?

its ur fmv viewer that is screwed up. (or something along those lines)
look for topics about fmv's and it should tell you what you can do

That'd be weird, it worked fine for the intro movie.

I've searched the internet, used the search function and went back 10 pages reading threads and I haven't found a solution... or the way to disable the FMV's altogether. Somebody want to help me out with this?

It should really be on the main page in huge red letters DOWNLOAD THIS! IT WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM lol.

Of course if this doesn't solve your problem... I still think it's a good idea

Can someone tell me how to disable the fmv's?

Are you running the movies from a CD? If so then can you copy that movie file (mkup.avi) to your hard drive without errors? If not then your disc is scratched. I had this happen once to an unskipable FMV and I couldn't complete Junon. Fortunately, I had backed it all up and knew the "movie trick".

As for advice, get YAMP and use the FMV skipper.
