Please don't kill me but...
« on: 2009-08-03 22:52:18 »
So as some may know, I've been here about a year. Most recently I have dwelled in the Completely Unrelated Forum, now I'm getting serious.

I realize that what I'm asking now is not something I will take for granted, and I have no clue what I'm talking about. I'm still in school, and I want to start with graphic designing and engineering, mostly just modding FF7 for now.

So I downloaded this program package called TDesigner3d, TDirector3d, and TDeployer3d. I falsley assumed that I could dive right into modding characters and graphics. FAIL.  :-D

I found out this is another program created for users who already know what they are doing, which I do not.

I know the rules here, so sorry if i offend anyone with my ignorance. But alas, I wish to continue working towards this stuff.

The main question - Where do I start? And will I be able to start working on a smal - very small - project within a few weeks?

I can't help you with character or graphic design but i feel that i could help point you in the right direction.

there are some great people here who dabble in the arts of model design.

hermoor
APZ freak
i think neo cloud strife knows how to model design
mellenia
and viashino

so i would start by asking these people

also, dont immediately think people will harass you, i'm sure the members here will love sharing their wisdom with you

If you don't know modeling at all and get confussed by it's enever ending amount of options of 3D Studio and co, you can try Kimera. I coded it for people that don't know modeling (like myself). Of course, it's edition capabilities are extremly lacking compared to a real modeling package, but it should be ok for simple jobs.

Ok for Kimera -

I downloaded it, but I need this - msstdfmt.dll.

So I download that, but I can't open it. I don't know why.

If this helps, I'm Running Windows ME

Lol, running Windows ME never helped anyone  :-P

You don't open .dll files.  You will likely need to put it in your windows/system or windows/system32 folder and then run regsvr32 to register it.

Then again, ME is ooooooollllllllllddddddd

start>run>regsvr32 \WINdows\system32\msstdfmt.dll

or wherever you put the file.   I could be completely wrong about having to register it.  Like I said, ME might not even be capable of running Kimera

Well guitar_dudester91, what do you need help exactly with? We don't even know what you want to do. If you want answers you should make more specific questions.

Sorry. Ummm I want to be able to open up my models from FF7, and customize them? Like give them a better look i suppose, kinda like APPZFreak's Cloud. that and I'd like to make models from scratch.

Well, if you are planning to build a model from scratch Kimera won't help you much. If that's what you want you NEED modeling skills. You should use 3D Studio or something like that. Then you should convert it to FF7 format using PCreator and finally replace all the parts on the model with your custom parts (this is the only step Kimera can help you with).
You may find interesting the tutorial posted here:
