Thoughts about Crisis Core
« on: 2009-08-16 17:08:29 »
I thought it sucked....ALOT! Untill I found the "Prevent Death" accessories, since everything in the missons I was doing had Death attacks  :x

I thought the Materia Fuison thing was quite impressive. The new leveling system was horrible untill you went to GameFaq and found out there was an invisible EXP counter XD But Materia Fusion made you way to godly. "Wall +999% HP" And the new materia like Dark Firaga, or Hell Firaga. And my fave....THE GENJI ITEMS!!!! Get any of those and your offically a god. My only problem with it was; TO SHORT! The missions take up ALOT of times, but the story itself was short. I guess Zack didn't have anything else to share with us...

Tell us all your thoughts about this game cause man, It got me pretty angry. and I have learned something new about this game, if you drop your PSP about a 3 or 4 inches, it resets!

I think it is an amazing game worthy of the FFVII title.  The story was told superbly, and brought me even deeper into the FF7 lore.  I can't remember ever being upset that something in the story seemed ridiculous or that SPOILER----------Genesis was to blame for Sephiroth's breakdown-------------------END SPOILER.  Every bit of it flowed together and made perfect sense.
And when Cloud cried out at the end... and the music started playing.. I almost had the waterworks going.  It was damn well executed.

The gameplay... :|  was fun-ish.  It wasn't the best ever, but I think it did well enough not to really detract from the game.  It was nothing special, but it also wasn't terrible.

The Music.... A++

I have to agree that I wish it wasn't such a short game.  It didn't feel rushed or crammed together, mind you.  It just kinda sucked because if you already played FFVII, you knew when the end was coming, and it seemed too soon.

I think the first playthrough difficulty was a little too easy though.  It's great because it allows you to enjoy the story without being to challenging, but a little more challenge would have been nice.   NewGame + was definitely hard enough :)

Anyways, those are my thoughts, and I'm sure I'll be the only one to praise this game

I quite liked Crisis Core, but I think it would have been better if it had been a stand-alone game in a different world and with different characters rather than a part of the FF7 compilation. Why? Because a lot of the criticisms that CC has got have been for its deviances from the spirit/storyline of FF7 (in particular, Genesis almost replacing Sephiroth as the real bad guy of the series, as well as turning up in the Nibelheim reactor and ruining everything). If Crisis Core hadn't been a FF7 game, those criticisms wouldn't have applied. Besides the Nibelheim level, the characters, missions and storylines had developed quite a lot from the hints of the past that we saw in FF7, so I think that it would have been seen as a completely independent FF game if the names, character models and FF7-specific terminology were changed.

The other parts of the compilation also deviated from FF7, but I don't think that DoC or AC have enough substance for them to have survived if they didn't have FF7 characters in them. CC was a decent game in its own right.

I agree, if you've played FF7 you can give a good guess when the ends gonna be.

And if you went through and got all of Sephiroths DMW memories you'd think its Zack's fault for Sephiroths Breakdown like my favorite. "Hey Sephiroth, do 1ts get some kind of special treatment...?" "Why are you asking me?" "Well your not your average SOLDIER member so..." "If you want to know about 1St's talk to Lazard."

No, but you might be the only one to praise those parts of it.

Er, hard mode was available for the first playthrough :?

I think that hard mode on CC was just the right difficulty for a first playthrough (assuming that you're doing missions); I'm glad that I chose it. The only thing I'd complain about is the fact that I felt that the difficulty of some of the enemies was increased too much and others too little (I'm assuming that it was this way, because I've never played normal mode). I remember the missions where one fights lots of enemies on the Costa del Sol being ridiculous when they were immune to poison...

For my first playthrough I did normal mode, and made another save for Mission progress, cause I want to kill Minerva! With my other file I killed the last boss with Hell Blizzaga (of all spells) at lvl 43. On my other file I'm lvl 76, with break HP limit/Damage limit. And my PSP died just before I was going to get Minerva and I didn't save  :x Gotta do all those missions again...

I didn't notice New Game+ was any harder, love to see New Game++ Hard Mode.  :-P

Normal mode was of course easy (in some ways) but if your like me and didn't have any Death Preventing items and your Materia sucks, and your doing some of the harder missons, YOUR DEAD. Tonberrys who normally do 6000-7000 damage in other FF games, does 1000-1500. But Tonberry Kings; 10000. They drop alot of gil though :) But the best materia I have found....COSTLY PUNCH!!!!!   Always does the damage limit for me :) 99999 Another porblem with CC I have found, is that some items are WAAAAY to godly. Example Zeidrach, yea it was fairly good in FF7, but +100 all stats in CC? Thats a Weapon of mass destruction.

The instant death enemies were annoying , especially as status effects always work in CC (death will usuall,y miss in other FF games) and there are no allies to revive you.

Actually, the main gameplay flaw in CC was that, as opposed to other FF games, status changing magic was too powerful. Death ends things far too easily, stop and stun are basically the same as death when used by powerful enemies (especially when there are several of them and they keep on using it, so you never get a chance). Poison is a little too effective when used by Zack, particularly in big open spaces (such as the missions on chocobo farm); if you cast poison on enemies, you can just keep on running until they die. It seems that Square didn't think about how spells that were designed for turn based games in which one controls a party would work in real-time games where one controls a single character.

Incidentally, I was once stuck up against one of the Dual Horn type enemies (one that is immune to all normal attacks and magic) with no costly punch materia. I had to use Lucky Stars and Assault Rush materia and wait for his million or so HP to be taken off by Angeal's DMW (which is defence ignoring). That enemy also had an attack that could change your DMW status. Took hours to beat him...

I really enjoyed it. I think it's the only compilation title I can honestly say didn't take something "away" from the FF7 story for me. The atmosphere of the game... it just felt like it was set in the world of FF7. The music, the locations, even the menu's. Graphically, it's beautiful.

I have just gotten the Zeidrach (GODLY!!) and the Genji Helm (Peice of Crap) and started a New Game+ file  I'm juust happpy that I'm not at the instant death enemys  8-) I have to agree with Hermoor and the Wings, angels, stuff like that. That made it alot more out of FF7 Character in my opinion. drfeelhud88, all I can say is don't do missions 9-1-1 to 9-6-6 untill you get the Safety Tip, or a Super Ribbon, and have broken the HP/Damage limits, cause I couldn't do them at all without them.

Just to point out... the whole angelic thing... that was central to the original... In case no one noticed, it's more often divinity that causes the end of the world in final fantasy... rather than demonic forces...

Then again as both are essentially the same in origin...

The point is, Sephiroth was 'ascending to godhood' and took a form to complement that. As for the wings in the other installments of FFVII... they're purely for aestheic purposes... there is no logical reason for them. If the original hadn't been the "One Winged Angel" they might perhaps have mutated tails, a third arm, etc. etc.

There are some things that are very hard to see (this goes for the Funny Faces especially, since they move). There's a good chance that you've been missing something.

Vital Slash materia. It's also a part of the "seven wonders of Nibelheim" side-quest.

Actully if you want the Materia; its not hard to find. Assuming you have the keychain and Backpack Items just go on missions (I think 9-3-3 and some other missions) with Mog's Amulet on, or mug and there ya go. Also they cobvert into a decent amount of SP.

All attacks art Crtical when using it ya.I still find Costly Punch the best Command Materia....Every successful hit for me is 99999, if you HP has broken the limit by 1.11% of your health (Thanks for the Info Game faq rofl) it does Nothing. Only takes up like 100 HP for every use to :) Costly Punch is Iron Fist + DMW, Magiclal/goblin + DMW materia in Fusion. None have to be mastered.
