FF7 FMV hang
« on: 2009-12-09 23:31:46 »
K. I read the FAQ and searched for a topic with the same parameters as this, but no avail, so I made a new thread. Facebeat as needed.

So, I've done a clean install and before patching to 1.02, FMVs worked. After patching, the FMVs wont play, but the game doesn't crash either, it just hangs. As for the opening Squaresoft intro, it doesn't play, but I can press a button to bypass it and go to the New Game/Continue screen. However, this doesn't work with any of the other FMVs. (I'm also wondering why some versions of the game I've seen open with the blue Eidos logo, whereas mine opens with the 3D Squaresoft logo with the chocobos running around.)
Anyway, I've installed the TM20 coded and registered it, disabled the TrueMotion codec in ffdshow and no change.
Changing between Software and Hardware rendering or between RIVA and TNT produce no change. I like the Hi-Res look and what not, but the lack of progress after a movie is ... hindering my progress a little. (Tried the FMV skip patch too, no workie.)

I'm using Windows XP SP3
Celeron processor @ 3.2 GHz
Nvidia 8800 GT with most recent drivers.

Plz to help?

missing codec i believe is the problem, could be wrong though.

I know the fix is to download Aali's custom graphics driver. it is a must have for all FF7 PC users

I only ever had this problem with the Remix patcher, and it was on the same Graphics card as you. I could not find out how to fix it for the life of me, so I done a clean install and just manually done every mod rather than use the Remix patcher. It works fine for me now.
If you're not using the Remix patcher, then I've got no clue. If you've tampered with nothing then it's probably missing codecs or somethings wrong with the FMV file.

Yer, I kinda figured it was a codec issue.
But, for debugging's sake, it was a clean install and I didn't use the Remix patcher.

However, after using Aali's custom OGL driver, it worked, even with the Hi-res graphics patch. (Yeah, I know...that's probably frowned upon...I'm not complaining because my FMVs work AND the game looks good)

Cheeseplate.

It's not frowned upon :P I think that AAli's OGL driver has the Hi res patch already built in, along with many other patches like the chocobo patch etc. So it just makes it easier and cleaner to have one thing instead of several.
I'm glad you got it working though, enjoy the great game :D

It does, you get unnecessary graphical errors all over the place when you have both installed.

aij, potvispis.
Yeah, I didn't notice it until just a few minutes ago, but the opening Final Fantasy credits screen was all garbled and since I was in Junon doing the whole "I'm in the parade, then a boat" thing, no battles, but as soon as I tried to battle Jenova Birth, no dice.

Thanks for the info about the conflict. If I wouldn't have seen the reply to this thread I might've been searching for a minute or two.
