Can't seem to get FF7 to start
« on: 2010-03-07 16:16:09 »
Recently setup a virtual machine using virtualbox so I could play FF7 again. I figured it'd be easier to have the game running in an operating system it's designed for, rather than try to patch it up to run under windows 7. I've got a virtual machine setup with windows 2000, a 128mb direct 3d graphics card (what card exactly virtualbox emulates, I'm not sure), and 1gb of ram. I was able to install the game with out a problem, but when I try to start the game, the screen flickers black for a moment, then crashes out to desktop. I've checked the event log, and no errors have been written to it, so I'm not sure exactly whats going on. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Just run it under Windows 7

This. From what I gather, a 1.02 patched version of FF7 with the custom graphics driver running in Win7 is a lot more stable and co-operative than the original game running in the OS it was designed for back in the day.
