First of all, the remix is based on the FF6 Piano Collections version of Tina's theme. People tend to credit this remixer for the excellent arrangement, which isn't exactly true. Credit to where credit is due, and this guy is getting a bit too much IMO.
I've listened to this before, so I'll copy my notes from that time:
- Compare it with FF6PC instead of the FF6 OST and you realize it's just another remix...
- Excellent guitar tracks. Could've toned down the secondary one though, now they sort of blur into each other and makes sure you can't appreciate what was once beneath it.
- Good bass+drums, completes guitar perfectly.
- Added strings track is unimaginative, doesn't quite follow the chords of the underlying song (FF6PC). Sounds more like he just freak experimented by letting it go up and down randomly, ruins Uematsu's arrangement and nearly destroys the otherwise exquisite intro.
- Added trumpet is absolutely awful. Bad sampling for one, it doesn't fit into the other instruments at all, and screams so loud it totally ruins both chimes and strings in the intro.
- Could've chosen a better pad sample, it's a *little* out of place. Otherwise the mid-section is absolutely great, it's a perfect mix of Uematsu's track and the new rock style.
- The end is better than the intro, especially with the acoustic guitar. Why didn't he use something similar in the intro instead of that trumpet?
- Nice touch with the Prelude running in the background at the end.
- Final opinion: it's over-credited, but still way better than your average remix. Actually, the worst parts of this remix are still better than most remixes ever get.
[ EDIT: Well, maybe that last part says more about the average remix than this one
