If anyone cares, I updated the Final Fantasy X compression/decompression app at rhdn to version 0.3. It fixes some problems with "type1" files and adds "type2" support (for both compression and decompression).

Hi. Do you still need the compressor/decompressor? Two weeks (or so) ago I coded simple compression/decompression utility for my friend (rle+lzss). It works just fine with type1 compressed files. I have tested it with FFX (PAL) and FFX:International (jap/eng). I unpacked scene files for a dozen of locations, changed the text, compressed the files back, inserted them into image and played the game without any problems. So I guess it should work quite well. If it doesn't, I'll fix it whenever I'll get the chance. ;)

I've just uploaded the file on rhdn, but it will take some time for it to be accepted. Here is the temporary link: http://www.okami.pl/down/ffxtool_01a.zip

There is only one thing I didn't test properly. I'm not sure, whether the maximum run length is 259 or 515 bytes. But if it was 259, then 0x7f value would be somehow reserved, which would be quite weird (couldn't find any original file with that big run). Though, if it is reserved for anything else, I wouldn't be that much surprised (I'm working on FF12 now, which I coded entire and complete toolset for... So I DO know that S-E is sometimes a pain in the ass).

PS. There is an error in the sample files you've posted in the first post. Either the emulation was not perfect or you screwed something up with the memory dump (or you dumped it at the stage, where some parts were already modified/overwritten).

I'm not sure whether this problem apply for everyone or not. But for me there was a real problem with the spaces in the mp3 paths. The solution is simple: you have to put all the paths (separately) in quotation marks ("d:\program files\ff7\mp3" instead of d:\program files\ff7\mp3). Or you can just use relative to ffmusic.exe path location (ex. "..\mp3\" if ffmusic is located in ff7\ficedula\ and mp3s are located in ff7\mp3\). Everything works great for me. I can't use ds_out plugin because of some cooperation level problem (does it require exclusive?), but the wav out does just fine.

Playing again my ff7 for the n-th time (can't even recall how many times I played through it before :D )

PS.
It's just my way to say hi to everyone. Single post every year... That's a lot of writing, ya know?? :P

edit:

I just walked through the forum and have seen thist problem was already addressed and solved few months ago in the original ffmusic release post... and in this post... (hit enter, lol). It may be usefull anyway...

I usually have all (level 1,2 and 3) limit breaks for my favourite party members (Aeris, Cloud, Tifa) just after I leave Midgar and Kalm (Then I can learn lv4 lbreaks as soon as they're availible).  I just fight a little around chocobo farm (2 maybe three hours). My level is also quite high then. (I can learn Beta from Midgar Zoloom and don't die). Usually I fight longer to gain levels in three locations (Chocobo Farm, Crater/Whirlwind Maze - in the cave before you fight Schizo, where is a save point and healing pool, and in North Crater where are pots you should give elixir to kill them - there also are red balls that can give you lots of ap).

Didn't post in a year or so, just surprised my account is still here...

You should also add: Bad guys that in fact aren't that bad or are not bad at all or are doing all the things they do just to realize they're not bad and it's only other people that are making them bad, but as from now love and peace.... - Caith Sith, Kuja etc. heh

I'm using ff9 UK PAL version. I have both original and copy (isoed, patched, burned). The black screen is probably the security check. You can fix it by making iso and then applying the patch (search net for ppf patches). You can also use your original (or copied) cd directly. Just download Pete CDR Plugin. It can patch the cds "on-the-fly", so you won't have to make iso of it, just insert into cd rom (you still have to download correct patches for every cd, name them correctly and configure the plugin). Just don't play ff9 Pal UK with epsxe 1.6.0 - there are places it hangs on fmv (the one your party escapes from Village of Dali to Lindblum Grand Castle after beating Black Waltz #2 is the first I had problems with). And I do like ff9 more than ff8 (this is the worst in series in my opinion), but not as much as ff7. Well the best thing to play ff9 is psx. Background images look much better than on emulaturs, but when it comes to 3D (battles, world map, character) -> yuck! Better don't watch. Some time ago, when ff9 was relased, sound on emulators was total shi*. There were also many bugs in graphics. But now when you use pete's gpu plugins and Ethernal SPU plugin it kicks ass.

[Edit] I also have NTSC US FF9, but only copy already patched (you can't buy original US ver here where I live...), but the second cd is broken and I wasn't able to finish it (after the fmv with brahne summoning bahamut it just gives me error, and quits to desktop). I just can't tell if the original non patched cd will run on emu...

.sfv are only crc check files. It'll let you check if your files were downloaded properly, and are not corrupted...

Troubleshooting / Problem with ff7music
« on: 2003-07-09 23:38:17 »
First: Sorry for postin this problem again, I'have searched through the board first(really), but it returned no match. Today I was searching once again and it returned quite big amount of topics... I must've made some typoo (happens to me all the time)

Second: I was able to get it to work

How? Patched ff7.exe using cetra. I installed ff7music 1.1.0. I had to use ficelib110. Then I had to get rid of all the unnecessary spaces, and >>enters<< after the and of music paths (files tab). Then I couldn't run it because it was crashing to desktop just after running. This was simple because I have had such a problem earlier with other games (eg Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX). It happens on dual monitor video cards (I have gf4mx440 with tvout), the game is usually returning to the log file something like >>DDRAW no Hardware Support<<

All I had to do was mess a bit in registry and change one setting

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\System]
"TwinViewDisabled"=dword:00000001

Then restart and... yuppieee

What's interesting: why the original file (unpatched) runs good, and the patched one needs that registry correction?

Hope it would be helpful for someone....

Troubleshooting / Problem with ff7music
« on: 2003-07-09 21:04:02 »
Nope, that's not it. It seems there is no difference in plugin version. What's more, the ffmusic even doesn't care if the dll exist (still the same error even when deleted dlls). I really have no idea what could it be...

Didn't play ff7 for ages... It seems I'll have to hear to midi music again (I'm using soundfonts but it's no match for mp3 especially orchestra and piano arrangements)  :weep:

Still no replies :sniff:  :weep: .
And I still can't find solution for this prob.

I've just realised that I tried with every ffmusic ver, tried tons of dlls, on w95,98,Me(yuck!), but I didn't try to change the winamp plugin dll. Hope that would be it...

Troubleshooting / Problem with ff7music
« on: 2003-07-02 21:22:00 »
I have problem with FF7Music. I didn't try it until recently, but it doesn't seem to work. I patched ff7.exe using cetra, created directory "Ficedula" in my ff7 dir, placed all ffmusic files in it, then placed ficedula.dll in ff7 dir (without it there was an error message saying it cannot be found). Then I configured it, but still all I can get is error message "Runtime error 217 at 0001A780", and just after it there is another one saying something like "Unable to run FF7MUSIC.DLL. Examine the file to find the problem" (it's not exactly this message, it's only translation because I have polish Win98SE so it's written in polish). Did anyone experience such a problem? Could anyone help me with it?

EDIT:
Tried to load it using regsvr32.exe -> "Load Library (>>ff7dir<<\ffmusic.dll) failed. GetLastError returns 0x00000485"

EDIT:
Version 1.05 gives "Runtime error 216 at 00002BE8"

Did anyone mess with ff9 saves? Which crc method does it use? It seems it checks almost all the data slot (for 1st slot it will be 0x2000 - 0x33fe). I tried with crc16 with all the polymonials but it does not seem to work. I'm not good at this kind of stuff, and I don't understand it very well, but it's worth trying. But now I'm in dead end, any help?

(sorry for my baaad english, and oh Hi again after a year or so not beeing here)

14
Thanks for help. It seems ff9 has one checksum, and it seems to be calculated the same way the ff7 chksum was. I will try it tommorow, now it's a bit late...

15
THX. I think it will be helpfull...

16
Was just wondering... Does anyone know how the checksum for FF9 savegame on psx memory card is created?

[EDIT:] Tried to figure it out by disassembling, but got stuck on it (I'm not good at this kind of stuff  :weep: )

« on: 2002-07-08 11:18:56 »
Well, it helped. Instead of blue screens I'm getting now black screen with orange text saying that it is now safe to turn my computer off.  :D (what is funny, I have atx mb and it doesn't turn off automatically after that). I think I'll stay with the older ones  :( . Damn, I bet it's my mainboard fault. F**king sis chips, hate, hate and hate them again... Got to change it for something else. (Well, I got it as a gift so I'm not that mad, at least I didn't lost my money on that crap)...

I don't know why but almost every new drivers (29.x) don't work on my comp (29.80 doesn't). All i get are blue screens and blue screen until I reinstall the older one. (duron 950, geforce2mx400). (29.41 works)

Archive / Final Fantasy 7 PC - Best Solution?
« on: 2002-06-17 19:10:08 »
Well, for me the best solution is 12.41 detonators, TNT patch installed, NVIDIA box not selected, DIRECT 3D mode.... It works perfect (well almost... sometimes when I run ff7 for the first time after windows restarting the text seems to be a bit odd, but alt+f4 and running the game once again helps). Oh, and I don't have to disable 8-bit palettes (ff7 config says PASS). Why it is so great? Well it gets rid of some bugs (if you run 6.50 det, nvidia enabled you will have some problems with the transparency and background - the mist in temple of the ancients, the lights in gold saucer when cait sith escapes with the key, etc - it's not so much of problem but...). First reply after a looooong breake...

General Discussion / Minimum Requirements
« on: 2001-11-09 08:51:00 »
I've played FFVII on P200MMX, 64 MB of RAM, Voodoo 1 Card (combined with 4MB S3Virdge DX/GX), 2.5GB samsung hdd, and Yamaha 3D soundcard. I still have that comp at home and I'm using it to play old (usually dos) games (it is helpfull, because some games don't want to run on geforce, sblive etc). Well it was kinda slow (not all the time, some spells, transitions between screens, ..) but  I liked it.

I have compiled version of garden but I didn't have any problems to compile it. Maybe you don't know enough about VCC compiler joey? (I used MS VCC 5 to do it). Maybe if I'll have some time later, I'll send you it.
