Which mods use most RAM / fill cache the most?
« on: 2020-04-28 12:27:08 »
Hello guys,

Let's get this out of the way first: I love 7th heaven and all the mods available in it.
So a big shout out to all of you here, fantastic work.

Now, to the issue at hand.
I'm experiencing the problems with the drivers (I guess) that also others have brought up in this forum.
So far I've taken the good advise from unab0mb and changed to windowed mode, with the stats titlebar on.
This helps tremendously to prevent "unforseen" chrashes.

Since I really have no experience with these kinds of things, I thought to ask you for some more help, specifically which mods
to deactivate to keep the RAM used/ cache as low as possible for as long as possible?
Should I deactivate Spell textures? Battle models? Or maybe something else entirely?

Thanks a lot and be safe!

Hi faithbreaker,

I was referring to this topic here: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=19689.0

unab0mber states, quote:
"
You will probably crash randomly no matter what. I'd recommend you turn on the stats titlebar and play in windowed mode. If you see your texture cache getting close to the limit (2048MB is default) and/or your RAM usage is 900MB or more, you're almost guaranteed to have a crash soon.
"

So, that's what I did; I myself use 1024x768 as a resolution now.
I can usually play for quite some time without a crash and whenever I'm around ~1500MB cache I save and restart.

It would be great however to know what uses most cache so I can potentially go longer without saving, for parts
of the game where there's no save point for a while.

You kind of just have to experiment. Different people get different results even with the same mods. Turn on Save/PHS Anywhere so you can save whenever you want, but don't save during a scripted scene or you may get stuck there. Always a good idea to rotate your saves and don't just keep overwriting the same one over and over.

Ok, I understand.
The "Save/PHS anywhere" is just what I need, I#ll simply keep all mods on and save more often, rotating between a few more files as well.
Thanks again, and apologies for quoting your name wrong earlier.

No problem. I'm happy to say that crashing should largely be a problem of the past with the next update.

That would be so awesome, I just love playing full-screen.

Seeing too many crashes and got discouraged a bit.

If the update happens cool, if not I'll start tweeking stuff to see what gives me results.
