[7th Heaven] Bypass "verify my files"?
« on: 2025-11-15 03:18:12 »
Hello. After modding various files within Final Fantasy 7, and launching it via 7th Heaven, I continually get this message:
Code: [Select]
### Launching Final Fantasy VII ###
Checking System DEP status...
Verifying latest game driver is installed ...
Checking FF7 is not running ...
Checking FF7 .exe exists at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\ff7_en.exe ...
Checking FF7 Steam if installed correctly......
Verifying installed game is compatible ...
YUFFIE: Urrk!! Something's wrong with your installation, and it... ulp... Use Steam's "Verify my files" tool or reinstall from CD to fix.
Failed to launch FF7. View the above log for details.

I've attempted to get around this by installing these changes by creating my own mod, but options to learn that are few and far between, let alone actually INSTALLING it. I've searched around Steam, and 7th Heaven to no avail. Some guidance would be very appreciated. (p.s, please don't suggest going to 7th Heaven's respective discord servers. Not a fan of discord.)

You're flunking the piracy check. Specifically, which files in your installation directory did you add or modify?

I have a similar problem. I just bought the game on Steam and selected a few favorite mods (mainly audiovisual upgrades). Everything runs perfectly.

Then I tried the final step: using an old installer to install a Czech translation from here: https://www.rk-translations.cz/ff7cz.php

Unfortunately, it modifies some files and I end up with the same error message as the previous user.

Is there any way to disable the file checking? The translation will not be remade as a 7th Heaven mod, and it would be a shame to be forced to play the vanilla version just because of this final check.

Thanks for your help.

7th Heaven requires the untouched english version of ff7.exe (ff7_en.exe)... I imagine this translation thing is messing with it, making it impossible.

Thank you, @Bonez, for the answer. The Czech localization really does modify the executable file. I switched it back to the original one, and it now runs through 7th Heaven — but without the Czech language.

Is there anything in 7th Heaven that forces the game to use English? Could it be bypassing or overriding the original language files which the czech translation changed?

Thank you for the answer.

Ok, a quick update.

I’ve found out that two mods were causing the translation to be overwritten.

Echo-S 7 – I disabled it completely, since there seems to be no way to use English audio together with Czech subtitles.
ESUI – I only turned off some options that are explicitly meant for native English.

Voilà — the Czech language now works.

However, there is one final issue: the font. It doesn’t support Czech special characters, so instead I see random symbols from the ESUI font.

Is there a way to completely disable the ESUI font and let the original font load instead (the one injected by the translation)?

Yes disable ESUI in the mod manager, it is designed for English language.

You wont be able to play a translation alongside any gameplay mods, as there will be a conflict in the scripts they change, which is why Echo-S didnt work.

Which characters were an issue that work on the stock font?
