Can't make most of the patches work
« on: 2005-09-25 18:53:26 »
I have always errors with all the patches that usually include the editing of the .lgp files. I can't make the reunion patch to work, or the highres Cloud battle model (Which uses the model from the final battle). With the Reunion patch, for example, I always get the error message "missing file "Insert4LettersHere"."InsertExtensionHere"". Its usually .anm file (Or what was the name of the animation files?).
I have all the required tools and done everything just as I've been told in the examples. First I did just like they said in the readme of the Reunion patch, the, I saw the "The newbie's tutorial for the Reunion patch" thread, and even though I had done everything correctly the time I tried without the guide, this time I tried making everything exactly like they said in the guide. First making the copy, then open the char.lgp, unpack to char folder, apply the Reunion patch, pack the char folder into char.lgp with lgp tools, straight into the original char.lgp location (Field). When I tried to start a new game or load an existing one, it showed me black screen with the error message behind the game screen, or showed me the error screen of the file which was probably missing from the .lgp package. Almost everytime it changed he name of the file which was missing. When I checked through the char file, menu file and world file, even with the original unedited files, I could not locate these missing files. I don't know whether they're supposed to exists in the first place or is the game just making some own goddamn 'legend of the files'.

With the cloud battle model highres patch, which is a lgptools executable (Made with lgptools), it always gives the error "cant access line fg0400f894578435-yada" (Gives an assembly line code error or whatever it is), no matter how many times I do it and how many times I read the guide through.

I have both Windows2000Professional and Windows98SE installed on my computer. I use the Win98 to run ff7, because Win2k gives an error message in the first battle with the soldiers (The Win2k patch didn't help either, nor the chocobo patch or anything). I'm using legal version of the game, not some goddamn warez-ultimate-pwn-shit.

Lgptools is 1.6, I have "full" install, I've tried using the files that come after installing and the files that can be copied from the install cd (Which are supposed to be the same), I have the official FF7 1.2 patch, I have deleted both the char folder and the old char file from the folder after making the new .lgp file, and I've tried to re-install ff7 too many times. I have tried to install the patch after installing other patches and without patches too, and I've tried using both the original cd's and images, but I guess that wouldn't matter anyhow. All the files have been the correct size, that means a size that all others have had.

I want to enjoy a bucket full o' whoop ass too, goddamned! :)

EDIT: Btw, is there a way to get any kind of sephiroth sword or similar (Other than the butterfly edge, or whatever it was). If not, then what use is it of to get the item from the goldsaucer race'n'shoot thingy. The "Perfect copy of the whatever-blade" or something like that. When I first got it, I thought I could get my own Sephiroth sword and took it to the lonely swordmaker that lives near goldsaucer in his own house. And is Ultimate sword really the best sword in the game, it can do 9999 damage but only with full health, and not counting the apocalypse which has 3x experience.[/Possible spoiler]

From gold-saucer you can get the masamune(or whatever it was), if you just get score high enough. Same sword as Sephiroth has. And do you have the original game, or illegal copy? :P

So I can get it! :D Is it good? And how much do I have to score to get it?

I have absolutely no idea what to do next. No-one can probably help me, but I've seen other people post about this same problem too, but since it's never been answered, I had to make this. I would really like to get the Reunion patch work. It's just simply too cool.

Are you trying to say I'm using an illegal copy of the game? I bought this from a "flea market" (I have no idea what's the correct english name for it, second hand store perhaps?) for 10 euros. If you can't help me, hell, the last thing I want to hear is somebody blaming me for using some warez shit!

And are you talking about the item or the actual weapon. I have prised the useless (Or at least I think so) item, that says it's the perfect copy of the masamune blade. If the item is supposed to be the weapon, how can I use it?

Can't remember how much score you have to get. So did you get the game work with 1.02patch? Just leave those hi-res patches, the original graph is the most legendariest :P

But I have already played through FF7 for few times already, now I want something new into it. Without the patches and the new stuff I wouldn't probably even installed FF7. Well, the patches and the upcoming Advent Children movie, that's not yet released in Europe. And when I said played through, I mean with 99 levels and killed all the weapons and shit, but the Reunion patch looks so cool.

I already have tried with 1.02 patch, didn't work.

Now I unfortunately have to go to bed, It's 22:33pm in Finland, and I have to get up at 6am.

Translated version of my post:

He already answered that:

And... as for your problem Tumppi... Hmm... you've already tried everything...
End of translated version. The rest has nothing to do with that.

Now cool down... Done? Take that tutorial and read it once again... And again... Then do a fresh install and follow the steps... It can be an ugly mistake you do everytime, trying to apply that patch.

Also: User's statement, that he uses a legal version is more than enough for me. Why shouldn't I believe him?

Well, I've tried doing this again and again, but still no luck. I only get the models to work on the world map, by changing the char file back to the old char.lgp after the patch. The patch said that I should have 12709 files in the char folder after the patch, well I have 12806, which is probably the reason why it's not working. Could somebody upload the patched working char file or something, or would it be illegal?

And how am I supposed to make FF7 run under Win2000. The compatibility mode won't work either, it only freezes ff7 totally. My Win98 keeps crashing so it would be a lot easier to use Win2k.

Sorry to trouble you with this. It would be nice if someone has had the same problem that I have, but have gotten the game working and could tell me how they did it. I did though get the highpoly-cloud battle model working

It doesn't work for some people... Dunno why...
