Recording FF7
« on: 2008-03-21 18:46:38 »
Hey folks, I'm trying to capture some videos of FF7 PC but I am having a lot of trouble.

To start, I am using: FF7Music, 1.02 patch, NPC RP 0.6, High quality cloud

I tried using Camtasia to record video, but a) it slows FF7 down a LOT (like, framerate cut in half) and b) when I watch the video played back, there is a ton of flickering, geometry is popping in and out, disappearing, etc, which doesn't happen as I play and record.

Then I tried using FRAPS, and it worked until I got to a battle where FF7 just started to hang and then crashed (at the battle swirl, not in battle).

I have used FRAPS successfully before to record some WoW stuff, so I'm pretty sure the issue is with FF7 and not FRAPS. I would much rather use Camtasia to record (as I want to record some narration while I'm playing) but I haven't used it before so I don't know if it's a Camtasia issue or a FF7 issue.

When not using recording programs, FF7 runs perfectly.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you play on an emulator you could use ePSXe to record it (it has that feature).

If you really need to record the PC version, I can't help you. I have never did it.

My disc 1 for the PSX version doesn't work, so unfortunately I can't record it that way. I want to record the PC version because of the graphics mods, too.

You can try YAMP's MiniGamesPath with battle-swirl fix. That should help you with the crashes.

I managed to get recording to work with Camtasia by using the windowed mode utility. Works great in windowed. The only problem is the FMVs are garbled by big black lines.. well, more like there's part of the FMV, then a big black bar, then the rest of the FMV as if the black bar is cutting it in half.

I swear I read about a fix for that somewhere, I'll need to hunt it down...

Switch your desktop color depth from 32bit to 16bit.
