Most recent NVIDIA drivers have problems with shaders. Go into your ff7_opengl.cfg file and turn shaders off.

You're a genius DF... thanks for the advice about installing remix and using the lgps it makes manually after a reinstall. That worked great

everything but Dans FMVs XD

but idk, the opening movie file and the actual intro with aeris walking on the remix aren't Dans', so not really sure about the remix FMVs overall. I'm probably wrong about them being included with the remix.

but the nice ones he made just dont work with my system, I can get them to play in game but not at the correct speed.

As for the OP's problems, which are more important, I'm curious to see if turning shaders off works.

I was just about to post that. Most of the FMVs in Remix are DLPB's, however there are a few good ones that are made by Grimmy.
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8414.0

I took the good ones from that post and combined them with the other ones I needed from Trojak's FMVs. They are upscaled and look more "smooth".
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11504.0

I personally have never had a problem with DLPB's FMVs. However I've only tried them once so I cannot say they are reliable or not. What did you change in your FMVs DLPB?

But I digress, let's see if OP has any luck with turning off shaders.

Wait, so Darkfang you are actually using Trojaks FMVs even though DLPBs work for you?

The difference is, that mine keep to the original and enhance as much as is possible without taking ANY detail away.  Whereas his get rid of all noise and with it, make the FMV look like plastic.  It is a personal preference.  I prefer to keep the original, even though it has more noise, to removing the noise with detail.

There is another guy somewhere who has done an even better job (noise reduction vs original), but I don't think he has completed them all yet.

So I guess I might mess with my graphics driver..

Because I'm a noob it's possible I've made a mistake so here is a bit more information if it helps solve the issue.

Might have not installed ff7_opengl-0.7.11b right; I copied the files to C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII and replaced the FF7Config file. Wish I could screen shot the files I have in my install folder in case I missed something.

Second thing, I have got the game working before by installing the game and remix in another folder ("Program Files\Games\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII") I ran the game using FF7 Music Config.

During the installation of remix I did receive error messages about certain files not found, after installation it opens the opengl.cfg file and prompts the user to enter the resolution but this file was empty.

The game did run but I don't know which mods were active if any.

So does any of this make any sense?

you need to OPEN the opengl.cfg file and edit its contents. Change the resolution and specifically the option for SHADERS needs to be set to OFF.

the file can be edited with notepad.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I have changed the resolution and turned shader Off

window_size_x = 1280
window_size_y = 900
preserve_aspect = yes
fullscreen = yes

# use shaders, if available and supported
# turn shaders off to use the OpenGL 1.1 backend
use_shaders = no

I still get a black screen but I can hear the Eidos Logo screen. The only way to exit seems to be logging out of the account. When I press Alt + Tab the resolution is still 640x480. That's why I wonder if I installed ff7_opengl-0.7.11b correctly

run everything including ff7config as ADMINISTRATOR
or turn off UAC (I think vista uses UAC right?)

run ff7config should have a title that says: Final Fantasy VII Configuration v1.02
go to the graphics tab
under RENDERER select custom driver - should give message stating self-test passed (fail 8-bit paletted textures is NORMAL)

test to see if that works by running ff7.exe as administrator as always

i apologize if these suggestions are too basic, was making sure not to overlook anything.

Well I knew it was something simple and stupid.

I hadn't selected custom driver from ff7config.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Edit: I'm trying to apply a mod, I'm trying to get Phoenix Rejuvenation Project working.

I thought I followed the instructions; Run the installer and then run FF7-PRP. This was installed in C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\data. The config file that was added another FF7config file, however this does not have the option for custom driver so when I run FF7-PRP I get a black screen.

What else was I supposed to do?

hehe, saw this coming next.

glad you got aali's driver working, cus here's where the fun really starts.

PRP installs 2 files you will use but the installer itself is pretty old so the actual executable files it gives you don't work.

all you really need to do is rename the 00.lgp file located in data\ffprp\ in the game directory to char.lgp and copy it to the data\field\ directory overwriting that file. Do the same thing with 01.lgp, renaming it world_us.lgp and copying it to data\wm\ overwriting the original file.

Of course if you had taken my advice and watched the tutorial video on www.finalfantasy7pc.com you would know how to install this :P

Also, owning to advice DarkFang gave, earlier in this same thread, I've installed remix in order to use the .lgp files it generates. I copied battle.lgp magic.lgp world_us.lgp and char.lgp from the data folder after installing remix, and saved them in a seperate file. Then uninstalled FF7 and reinstalled vanilla, replacing those lgp files afterwards. This leaves you needing only to install the official 1.02 patch, aali's driver, and the recent DLPB/Kranmer Menu Overhaul. This seems fairly solid. Another way to go for a modded install anyway. But those few lgp files contain the bulk of the modded game data available to the community.

Aside from that, there are some great mods that you install by placing the files into the Mods\ directory. In aali's ff7opengl.cfg file the Menu Overhaul will set the modpath as DK so makes sense to use that. The Magochocobo\Felix Lionheart battle bgs and World Map overhaul are the major mod you'll want to add using this method (simply by copying the files provided into your modpath directory, usually into a subdirectory of their own). Also Sl1982s bombing missions field backgrounds, and Yarlson's Blackfan Project (which is pretty large and includes the Northern Crater backgrounds) are installed using modpath.

Good Luck on all this, I think I'm gonna stop replying to this thread lol

After installing the Remix, replace these files with the versions from a fresh install of FF7:
    .\data\kernel\kernel.bin
    .\data\kernel\kernel2.bin
    .\data\battle\scene.bin
Reinstall the 1.02 patch (REQUIRED FOR MENU OVERHAUL)
Install Aali's latest OpenGL driver
If you're using an NVIDIA video card, copy .\shaders\main.frag and .\shaders\main.vert into .\shaders\nolight\
Install Avalanche
Install Avalanche GUI
Then install the Menu Overhaul

There are a few damaged battle models and world textures, but the game will run.

These are the files from 00.lgp necessary to update the Remix will all of the latest PRP field models:

Thanks for your help.

Looks much better now, although changing the resolution doen't seem to do anything, I think it stays at 1280x800 changing to 1280x900 displays the game in widow mode. changing to 1680x1050 doesn't change anything.
I can live with it if there isn't anything I can do about it.

I'm looking for some updated music tracks, any suggestions?

You have linked to an outdated version of the installer. Since that release, I have fixed a few bugs. 1.51.10 can be found here. Additionally, the first page always has the latest release.

I believe the higher resolution reduces the jaggies on 3D models.

I think I installed the mods mentioned - Avalanche graphical overhaul and Menu overhaul (M003). I used FeliX's tweaked Graphics. Which mod is supposed to update the enemy models?

I get a "Invalid Colors" message on bottom left corner of screen when I start the game and still get error messages on FF7Music and have no idea what they're refering to.

I have a problem. I get stuck in the part where it says "Verifying presence of tm20dec.ax, setting registry keys..." and it just stays there. What am I supposed to do?

I'm getting this same exact problem. It says this, followed by a message about my movie directory being in the wrong place:

"Error Finding Patched Installation of Final Fantasy VII--make sure the program has been installed to its default folder, or manually edit the registry to specify movie file path."

I Installed the game to my F:\Games\FF7\movies folder. Not sure where to go from here.

I'm also not getting any in-game music, which I assume is because the remix installer doesn't finish (as I previously stated).

Can anyone help me out?
