Hey, Sega, will you be taking any notes from FF7Rebirth for any of the character specific balancing changes? Because if so, I feel that Nanaki's "Behemoth"-like playstyle (taking hits while defending to charge a super mode) from Rebirth would benefit him a lot.

And to keep him distinct from the other tanks, you could rework his passive into being a huge damage boost for his next attack (whether it's a basic attack, Deathblow, a spell, or a limit), but keep him being Yuffie-levels of fragile so there's some risk/reward in having him facetank attacks for his teammates, while also having players consider not just slapping Counterattack materias onto him like Barret and Cid want.

Funnily enough, his current innate in the 2.1 prototype build was based a bit on his Rebirth behaviour; when he takes 10 hits, he gets the following:
+40 STR/MAG & Regen

Issue though is that it has the same kind of flaw that the current 2.0 one has; doesn't benefit much in random battles which will be over before it activates. I could try and implement what you suggested, store hits taken when he's defending and then try to buff his next action or have him loose a buffed attack within a time-frame of, say, 2-3 turns but I'll need to experiment with it to find something that can be made use of fast enough to make an impact.

Oh neat! lol
Though, wasn't there some problems with some characters having their stats overflow if their Innates pushed their stats over 255? Or am I misremembering that? lol

I think having an immediate damage boost (e.g. double damage) for his next command (attack, magic, limit, items, etc) or a weaker damage boost (e.g. 50% boost) for 2-3 actions is prolly the best way to go for him, so that he gets an immediate benefit from it in both random battles and boss battles instead of it only being relevant for boss fights (and even then, he'd struggle to get any use out of it against most bosses, unless you're deliberately under-levelled & under-geared if the benefits aren't immediate). hell, it'd prolly fix a lot of his damage scaling issues with his multi-hit limits if players could let him get hit for a beefy damage boost.

Though, I would absolutely recommend making him really fragile to make him a risky yet highly rewarding glass cannon, since this Innate would be easily abusable and skyrocket him to being too powerful if he were durable enough to shrug off most attacks throughout the game. It'd give us a reason to have him Defend too, to improve his odds of surviving attacks thrown his way (especially from bosses) so that he can retaliate with massive damage. Not to mention his limits Sled Fang and Blood Fang both having some amount of HP Drain would have greater mileage if he's prone to getting knocked down to critical HP easily.

Oh and this could also solve part of Howling Moon's problem by swapping the Berserk Effect with the Damage Buff for 2-3 actions (or for 4-5 actions if you go with the weaker boost)! Unless, of course, you came up with a better way to make Howling Moon worth using beyond unlocking Earth Rave
